I don't think so. Chelsea were willing to let him go on loan but they didn't even want to hear about selling him (or loan+rights to buy).
If they didn't want to have anything to do with Milan they wouldn't have let him go on loan.
Milan on the other hand wanted only a loan deal+rights to buy.

There is a very famous Croatian agent, Naletelic. He works with Milan a lot and Milan signed many world class players through him. Milan never ever signed a bad player when Naletelic was involved.
He's the one who's been telling them to sign Ivanovic (he's not Ivanovic's agent) for a year already and in an interview he said that it's been a long long time since he saw such a classy defender like Ivanovic.
He also has great connections in Chelsea and he was also involved in the potential Ivanovic to Milan transfer, but he couldn't do shit because Chelsea didn't even want to think about selling the guy (to anyone, not only Milan)
aha, that make a lot of sense. So if they have to sell, they will only sacrifice him for big players, Kaka deal maybe.

anyway, why all these rumors came from? he isn't happy or had problems or something?

Fenerbahche wanted Tiago right? maybe we can take Lugano. He's not WC but still an improvement from Legro.
Lugano is one of the key players for Fenerbahce, and they are not desperate for Tiago, they have good midfielders and specially after signing Emre. plus, Lugano is CL tied, he can't play for us in Europe this season..

At this point, there's no good defenders who aren't key players for their teams, so our only option seems to be taking a risk with a promising defender on load without the rights to buy( Ivanovic, Pique,etc..)

perhaps in this situation we should go for that ivanovic loan, even if we don't get an option to buy. It's no fun but legrottaglie-mellberg at the back will be no fun either

I don't think we have many options, our management cant do nothing about that right now, we can hope for a good cb signing during January's mercato. But right now its just a long shot, even if they try no one is available.

Milan will outbid us for him. Even if its just a loan deal, they'll just offer a better salary.

Everyone is crying for Ivanović, I can't figure out why. I agree he's a hot prospect and he would have been a nice addition to our squad as the fourth-choice central defender, having Chiellini, Legrottaglie and Mellberg in good shape. But now, when Chiellini is out, a player who we need is someone experienced and proven in Serie A, that Stendardo we had last season would be a much more reasonable choice than a young inexperienced player who haven't played a regular match for months and knows Italian league only from stories. This topic perfectly explains the term "overhype" on Ivanović's casus, you know...

I agree, although ivanovic looks extremely promising, right now we need someone proven. We can't just buy ivanovic and field him straight especially if chiellini is out.

why is everybody against stendardo ... judging from the appearances for us last season he did pretty well (even looked better than legrotaglie at times).
he is dangerous with his head (ok, he heads wide often, but at least he does get often in these situations where he is able to head on the goal).

ivanovic will take his time to settle in serie a and also to get to know the other defenders ... if we loan him (without the buy-clause) then we will let him mature with us and let him make mistakes in our defense and chelsea will laugh their ass off, because we let him play and obviously do not have much from that risk because he is unproven.

stendardo already played well and i really think right now and for the next season he would make fewer errors than ivanovic ...

so if we really don't go for stendardo we will have to look for the teams that play the uefa cup, because their players are not cup tied and will be able to play in cl for us

I think if you play uefa your cup tied as well, I might be mistaken though, not sure. Stendardo would have been a reasonable alternative but lazio wants a hefty amount of cash for him, cash that can be used to buy someone twice as good, I believe they "priced" him at around 12 million euros. If it wasn't for that tag, I bet that he would have been ours, and we wouldn't have bough knezevic.

    Stendardo :lol2:

Might as well just use Knezevic. Do some of you people strive to be mediocre or what?

The point is that there's no available experienced defenders. So the only option is to buy(or borrow) a promising player and hope for the best.

Dude, we're not saying he's our savior. But we don't have many options right now and ivanovic to many is just a prospect. Stendardo is better than knezevic and he's accustomed to serie A he could fill the hole. He's on par with leggro and melberg, couple of years younger as well>>>room to improve.

i heard that on german television. i don't know if it is true though

but that price was set as buy-clause in the loan deal .. no one knows what they value him now. if i remember correct stendardo fell out with the coach and if it is still that way and he does not play, then he might be cheaper.
