I get the feeling some people enjoy freedom of speech just for the sake of it. It's like if I gave a 5 year old the permission to eat as much candy as he wants. He would be the happiest person on earth and he would laugh at all the other kids without knowing that he's harming himself.

Having grown up in Sweden I have no problems with the idea of free speech at all. My only problem with it is that it's increasingly used in the wrong way. What good comes out of making a cartoon of the man held at the utmost respect to billions people? Is it for the sake of art? Is it for the 10 secs of chuckles some people have? What good comes from it?

Why not draw a picture of a black man being turned down for a job position when he's equally qualified as the white man that got the job? Why not draw a picture of how a woman gets paid less for doing the same job as a man? All those would be perfect uses of free speech.

It's because not making one means that we all bow to the same people. That means those people could be tyrants. Making such a cartoon has more meaning than you think.

Is the Danish newspaper responsible for the reactions in muslim nations thousands of miles away, when the Danish culture does not adhere to the same societal norms of the Middle East? It seems as if you would like a universal standard as opposed to the "when in Rome" standard. Is that what we're getting at? If so what beliefs, morals, or standards are universal? When is something considered insulting?

Just because Catholics don't care about their prophet doesn't mean we shouldn't... And yeah you don't understand... you say you are open minded and all that BS, but you won't understand... you won't understand because you are not willing to understand our belief system... you don't understand because you don't believe in anything... and you'll never understand until you begin to understand our sentiments... i don't like bringing up the cartoon topic over and over again... if you had put Osama's picture nobody would get offended... put Saddam, the Saudi King, the UAE president... not many would care...
