Cassano tops Juve list
Juventus are indulging in a bit of retail therapy after Tuesday's Champions League exit, identifying Antonio Cassano as their No 1 transfer target.
The Bianconeri are eager to find a player who can take them to the next level and Cassano is the man in their sights, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
However, if Juventus are to sign Cassano they will have to clarify the position of club captain Alessandro Del Piero.
The 34-year-old's contract expires in June 2010 and he is believed to want first team football until then as he seeks a place in Italy's World Cup squad.
The arrival of Cassano would undoubtedly put Del Piero's place in jeopardy and has provoked Juventus into considering other options.
Cassano himself has to plan his next move very carefully if Italy Coach Marcello Lippi is to take him seriously for South Africa 2010.
Lippi recently said that Cassano's chances of earning a place in his World Cup squad depend on his progress at club level.
By that he meant Cassano must play for a great club with regular Champions League football like Juventus, Inter or Milan.
The Bianconeri have already earmarked four other possible candidates that could, unlike Cassano, co-exist with Del Piero.
David Silva, the Valencia and Spain winger, is a favourite among the Juventus directors, as is Werder Bremen's
Diego and Napoli's
Marek Hamsik.
Udinese trequartista
Fabio Quagliarella has also been highlighted as a cheaper option and rounds off the wish list.
