Diego rallies Juve to rein in Inter

Diego believes Juventus have to start making up ground on Inter and fast because they already have a seven-point lead at the top of Serie A.

The Brazilian playmaker is the face of the new Juventus after completing a £23m transfer from German side Werder Bremen in the summer.

“Inter are far ahead. It's not normal for a team like ours to be seven points back. We need greater continuity, but we are growing,” Diego said.

I knew that it would be difficult, but I have the respect of the trainer and my team-mates. We will grow together.

“It's got nothing to do with the formation. We have to maintain our concentration for 90 minutes, and now we need speak less and let the facts do the talking.”

The 24-year-old former Santos youngster then reflected on Juventus' 1-0 victory over Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

“We have won a fundamental game. The three points really counted and we got them. Objective complete,” Diego explained.

We have maintained our concentration for the entire 90 minutes and this is a very important thing. Qualification is in our hands. We have to give everything to do it.

Finally, Diego thanked Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon for the compliments he has paid him recently.

They have given me immense pleasure, because he is a good lad and an exceptional footballer. Knowing that he appreciates my work is very important for me,” Diego concluded.

Diego must be protected, says Blanc

Juventus President Jean-Claude Blanc has asked referees to 'protect' Diego from being fouled out of games.

The 24-year-old's performances have come under scrutiny of late as he has failed to scale the heights he reached in his first two games in Serie A.

Some pundits claim Diego is still adapting to the Italian game and that fitness problems haven't helped, but Blanc has an alternative explanation.

“He was fouled 10 times in the game with Maccabi Haifa. That must not be allowed. They must do something about it,” Blanc told Tuttosport.

“A player like him must be protected as he guarantees to entertain the fans. He has been ill-treated in one too many games and can't express his best football.

“He can't be fouled so often and the officials must protect him more.”

Juventus director of sport Alessio Secco, the man who brought Diego to Italy in the summer, is also fully behind his President.

“I get the feeling that certain sides, like Maccabi on Tuesday night, set about to foul him scientifically,” Secco explained.

“First he is felled by one player, then by another and then by another one. This way they escape the yellow cards that should deter such behaviour.

“All No. 10s should get more protection,” Secco concluded.

Good job bringing this up, usually we just sit there and take whatever crap comes our way.

No, Gigli's approach was better "Refs make mistakes, it's ok, we're moving on, maybe it won't happen next time".

Why isn't Messi being bullied out of games anymore? Cause Guardiola/Laporta will eat them alive for weeks, every interview they will mention it, same with Mourinho and Moratti they stand up for their players. And refs do notice, and do get influenced by these things.

I'm with Elvin on this.

Ever since Calciopoli, teams have tried to put pressure on the refs before games.

It's about time Juve started to fight back.

Couldnt said it better

Martin seems to have an issue with him just saying anything, and not more concretely what he says. Nothing wrong with what he said here, sticking up for one of your players is quite assuredly what he is supposed to do.
