I'm a huge Diego doubter/critic, so take that with a pinch of salt.

I find him immensly overrated and fairly inconsistent. The type of player that shines in one game and fades away in the next 3. About his teammates, well he's not Trezeguet who is completelly dependant on his teammates. He's a player who's put on the pitch to organise it and raise the level of the whole team, the team is built around him.

I just don't like the type of player he is. To be a fantasista, you have to be out of this world. You have to be the player the opponent needs to close down. You need to be that every single game. If he's not, the team loses. And I'm sorry but he doesn't fit the bill in my opinion, he's not Kaka, even though most of you guys feel otherwise. I've watched Werder games lots of times where he was constantly strolling on the pitch, simply "not having his day".

And I don't want that, he doesn't fit even fit our system and in the end we have Giovinco. That money can be better spent elsewhere. But that's just me.
I rate Diego a bit higher than you, but I am somewhat concerned at how reliant the team may be on him (or whoever else we sign) if we change to using a trequartista.

why andy? i mean why would it be a problem to change to a trequartista?
Because almost all our play will have to go through him. If he has an off day, we'd be in trouble.

I don't want to re-open an old argument, but look at what happened when Riquelme had an off day when teams were built around him.

It's just not a system I am a particularly big fan of.

Agreed. These days, all top teams have DMs and it is very easy to take an AM out of the game. On the other hand, if we're playing a system in which Diego wouldn't be the only source of creativity, i.e. a 4-2-3-1, with the 3 being Camo, Diego and Giovinco, then it should be less of a problem.

I'm tired of hearing that a great player "doesn't fit our system."

The whole problem with our team IS the system, so lets scrap it already.

Well, Riquelme was a fantastic player/choker for Villareal, a team that didn't have many other weapons, so of course they would depend solely on him. So that's not a very good comparison in our case.

I'm a believer that we shouldn't hold back in signing great players just because of a system.

Whether people are convinced of Diego or not, that wasn't what I was getting at.

There will always be someone out there who doesn't believe in certain players.

It was just the first comparison that came to mind.

I am not a fan of 4-3-1-2. I think that teams tend to be very predictable because almost all the play goes through the trequartista. This means that if the opposition stop him or if he has an off day, the team has a big problem.

Some players can make make that system work, but they are few and far between.

I prefer my creativity to be in slightly wider areas (not necessarily wingers) as I believe that to be much harder for the opposition to stop.

I won't complain if we sign Diego, though, and I won't criticise the management for doing it, but I do have my reservations about it.

I don't agree then. The straight 4-4-2 is far more predictable than the 4-3-1-2, especially when you don't have wingers such as Manure United.

I don't know whether the shorty Brazilian would fit or not. Maybe if Juve signs that green creature from FC Porto with the sound name Hulk, then it would be nice.

-------Amauri/IQ
Giovinco--Diegito----Hulk
--Marchisio---Sissoko

Ribery, Silva or Malouda would be too expensive, plus the Frenchie is not a stock to notice.

Go for the green man!
