Domenech interested in 'new Trez'

France team pageFrance coach Raymond Domenech has revealed he is interested in calling up Gonzalo Higuain, a 19-year-old French-born striker who plays in Argentina.

Higuain - who was born in Brest, but moved to Argentina after just ten months in Brittany - was the star turn in the weekend's South American superclasico, scoring twice to help River Plater win 3-1 against Boca Juniors in one of the world's biggest games.

And the youngster's exploits have made Domenech sit up and take notice, with a call up to the under-21 side a distinct possibility for the player dubbed the 'new Trezeguet'.

"We know that he's someone who could be very interesting," Domenech said. "You don't play at that level at 19 years old if you haven't got talent.

"His second quality is that he wants to be French. That's even better and that makes me want to see him. It really pleases me.

"We're usually accustomed to the opposite - players not wanting to go elsewhere because it's easier that way."

Higuain has been a revelation in the Argentinian league this year and is River's top scorer this season with six goals from ten games.

As such, the comparisons with Trezeguet were inevitable - the Juventus striker was also was born in France, only to move to Argentina at an early age before returning to his homeland at the age of 17 when he began his rise to becoming one of Europe's top marksmen.

"At his age, he's got the chance to play with the Espoirs ," Domenech said of Higuain. "That way he can get to know the French players, so that we can make a comparison with those that play in France."

"We can see if he has a future or if he is just one of those phenomena that come along every now and then, impressing for a few months only to disappear afterwards."

well you said it urself, hes just an idiot. And i would advise the kid to go play with Argentina. Domench just wants to "test" him and then throw him when he realises that hes like Trezi.
Then he cant play for Argetina again.

:agree: He is good to laugh at, but the fact that he is good for something will be the reason moratti will get rid of him.

Trezeguet: “An important win today”

“It was great to win today, and important, especially as Frosinone played a very good game”. David Trezeguet was a happy man after Juventus secured another three points at the Olimpico. The striker had his chances but it was captain Del Piero who netted the winner in the second half. “I’m not 100% physically but it’s important I play as we have a long season ahead of us. What Del Piero has achieved is fantastic, all of us are really happy for him. Over the years he’s shown what a quality player he is”. And the 8 point reduction of the sentence? “There’ll be time to celebrate further down the line. We need to work hard to return to the top-flight as soon as possible”.
Nice comment Trez.
