I have seen some Barca games on the past due to my father been an enthusiast for that team. And although his offensive abilities are well known to many,(even his crosses surprise me aswell, because he was not that regularly good on its former team), his defensive skills were lacking at La Liga, I would not have think he could adapt that well to such a precise defending squad we have. I am glad I am mistaken.
The idea he cant defend has allways been a myth, its just that he had so much freedom to attack in Barca that there were bound to be spaces given away at times. But individually speaking he is a good defender, especially when he was much quicker he was menace to face. Plenty of classico where he completely made Cristiano cry.

Greatly exaggerated by the forum doom and gloomers and #teamobjective.

He was a beast for us in CL group stage too. One of the main reasons we topped our group.

It was only Serie A where he was poor and that was mostly because he was goofing off on the pitch in league.
He was adjusting to a whole new playing style and culture. And the funny thing is despite struggling with another type of pace and style (he was trying to combine/pass in Barca style in earliest games, did not click, old habits die hard for a 33 year old super champion), he was still decisive enough in moments to get goals and assists for us, plenty of, it in his friggin DOWN period.

MOM by a mile. Superb performance. Jaw dropping assists, fantastic interplay with Dybala and great defending. This dude was our missing link in the CL and now we have him. Superb.

This is what getting world class players with skill on the ball adds to your game.

    Especially when they're a RB.

 holy fuck, I completely forgot about him. literally made the team worse with him playing than with 10 men.

licht simply cant attack anymore...doesnt have the lungs nor the technique nor the brains to create.

But thats fine..he is not a winger-wingback....we force him to be one.

The mentality and experience his brought is immense. There will be games where he will be poor but the sheer fearless and know-how he has brought in CL is immense. We lacked this and who said it better than Alves himself when he spoke about the CL final in 2015 and talked about how Juventus showed too much respect and fear to Barca. Seriously though its CL nights like these where players deserve the double or triple recognition and for that hat's of Alves.

So yday on BT Sport in the UK, Rio Ferdinand was confused why no Premier League teams went after Dani Alves when they are in such need of a quality RB.

Then he said he should go to the PL in the summer, Gary Linekar asked "what? Move from Juventus to the Premier League? Would he do that? Why?"

Rio responded "YEAH OF COURSE...BECAUSE ITS THE PREMIER LEAGUE!"
