The difference is you decided to stick with the team. I love Baggio, but I never defected after he left.

Some of the modern day fans, perhaps exacerbated by the cancer that is social media, jump from team to team because their favorite player has moved. I have no respect for those types of fans. Don't call yourself fans of the sport - you're merely casual observers who obsess over a certain individual. It extends beyond football too. Bronsexuals in basketball are a prime example of that.
Well don't blame those 'followers'. Blame guys like Agnelli and co. who wants to Americanize the sport and transform the game into a franchise based system. It's just business. It brings money and that's what these corporates care about at the end of the day.

I think you can be a fan of the sport without being a fan of a particular team. Matter of fact, my favorite player right now is De Bruyne but I’m not a fan of city and tbh, I’m not sure I’m a fan of Juve either. I can’t stand what the team has become.

Thats what Im saying. You started supporting the BIGGEST German club. It wouldnt have been the biggest one without their star players and there wouldnt be anyone broadcasting their games, which would make it virtually impossible that you, non local, become a fan. So its really not much different to people starting to support a club because of a certain player.

Yeah, wasnt an option. As much as I liked Baggio, I grew fond of the team by the time he was leaving. And young stars like Del Piero emerged so it was very exciting period.
Well, you're right, I can't deny that. But I still somehow think it's different to a bandwagoner fanboy who jumps ship at the same rate of his favorite player, but your opinion is as good as mine of course. :)

Whats the issue here? Great players attract fans, simple as that. Some will stick around, some will move on. I became fan because I liked Baggio, then idolised Del Piero, some became fans because of Zidane, Nedved, Trezeguet... Surely the likes of Pessoto, Birindelli or Porini wouldnt lure me to watch games as a kid or this club to grow on me. Therefore I dont understand this constant bringing up plastic fans in Ronaldo discussion.

Now unrelated to you, but concerning discussion on previous page. CR a poacher and anyone who watches games knows this? What a retarded claim. I feel that member has no clue what poacher is. Inzaghi was a poacher, surely he can see the difference between the two.
You know who was the best poacher ever? Gerd Muller. @BayernFan

Sure, because u stick around and supported the club all this time. But there are also a lot of bandwagoners that jump from club to club depending on how succesful a club is. Whether you will decide to follow a succesful club or a player until a club lost a bit of fame or a player moves to different club, the effect will still be the same.

Also, I have a soft spot for Bayern mostly because I grew up watching Bayern playing with the likes of Klinsmann, Matthaus, Effenberg, Basler, Elber and Scholl.
The first 2 are some of the all time greats. Effenberg was a true warrior, you don't have many like those anymore. He deserves a video as well in the BL thread, a particular one came to my mind. :p

I liked Scholl, maybe the most talented player of that generation in Germany, excellent fk taker, but injuries prevented him to reach full potential. Effenberg I didnt like. Although very good player, he was very annoying. :)

He was always a cunt, no doubt. That was also why he didn't get more games for the German NT if I remember right, something about him giving the crowd the fuckfinger lol.

If not for that he would've played at least double figures of those 35 games he got.

At a certain point, one also gets attached to the name, colors, even the logo.

You know that players and management come and go, but you will always feel smth whenever you see B&W stripes or :J: anywhere, on anything. My avatar is proof.

A little cringy but still true :D

It's completely fine to like just the player. There's team sports and there's individual sports. If you're following individual sports you're automatically picking the player and it can easily lead to the same thing when it comes to team sports. Personally i got couple teams that i support(Juve, Devils etc.) but i can see myself being more fan of the players, because im seeking something extraordinary, something that has never been done or just something that caughts my eye skill wise. It's better to be invested to a whole team, because most likely it will always be there compared to the player, who's career is what it is. Of course new players are coming and going, but it will never be the same feeling of being part of the whole road, year in and year out.

Like in tennis, Nadal is the guy and after he's gone, what happens to my following of tennis? I will never feel the same way about it. After Del Piero was gone, i still do have my Juve right now, tomorrow and always.
