Most our infected are in the 35-59 age bracket, second biggest bracket is 15-34

I reckon our old folks are locked away and isolated by the cold nature of our mentality as opposed of a 3 generation Italian home.

Truly a mirror of the society
These 3-gen italian homes are also a function of pure economics - the average Italian is far less-likely to be financially independent from his parents, which very often results in several generations living under the same roof.
I'd imagine culture/mentality also plays a role but a lesser one, imo.

Tell that to the spastics in the park today together walking around and talking in groups of 5, 6, 7 or more (with their spawn of course). People are dumb as shit. It should be made temporarily legal to be able to hit them with a big stick (of shame).
Is a cricket bat as effective as baseball bat or a hockey stick?

Another thing to note is that 60-70% of the cases in Italy are from Lombardy. It's bad enough that a country of 60 million has so many cases. It's much much worse when a region of less than 1/10th the area of the country has them. The medical resources there are completely overwhelmed.

Excellent points. Add to that the dense population and it's a recipe for disaster.

As a silver lining, this is the first day that both the number of new deaths and number of new cases is lower than the previous day in Italy.
The Lord usually takes the sabbath off.

And China owns all their football teams. :juvefan::seven:

as italian I can tell you why...
There in Italy stopped testing people unless they are in critical condiction.
So those found positive are those heavly sick already as they refuse to test those that simply have high fever or lungs problems.
so the numbers for infected in Italy are just a number could possibly be 3-4 time higher than 50-60.000
There you high death rate compared to... less tested, those who are in a bad situation and so more likely to die and pump the italian ratio infected:deads
This. Assuming that even with fucked healthcare corona mortality is between 1% to 3%, I'd guess Italy has not 50k cases but somewhere between 180k and 540k.

South Korea has probably the most relevant numbers because they have done effective testing over a huge swath of the population and have a top tier health care system. And I believe it’s mortality rate is around ~1%

Mortality rate would be hugely affected by how well social distance is maintained from the elderly and other at risk groups. Quarantining pensioners and immunocompromised folk away from the general populace would be an ideal way to do this imo.
