There's a huge difference between a big country and smaller, not so developed one. In so many countries you see grandma/grandpa living with the family while they have no resources to separate. So it's not just about visiting them but trying to avoid the inevitable. Before my grandma passed away six months ago she was living with us and not facing a virus was close to 0% imo.
Then it's like you said, inevitable.

I'm afraid it is, at least in our shitty countries. But countries would never give up on people just to save the economy. They are aware they are going to lose a lot of lives but they will do everything to soften the effect, even if that means shutting down the economy. Italy has so many old folks over there, imagine if/when virus spreads all over the country and measures aren't taken... we'd be seeing probably 3000 deaths each day. Yeah, average age would probably be 75+ but still. Dunno, I just think countries don't want to let that happen, they wanna fight for it and are willing to sacrifice the economy. Sadly, plenty of people will lose everything they fought for their entire life, lots of companies will crash and it might take many years to recover.

I don't think the problem is people dying, if corona killed people after 24 hours we would not be in this mess, it's the drain in resources.

Debating on whether to leave NYC or just ride it out for however long...
IMO, I'd stay. Cities have better access and will get priority for food supplies, ventilators, medical experts, etc.

Good luck chllin' like Bob Dylan.

It's Tribal Football during a transfer window.

He died of kidney failure though
Literally died pissing in his pants.

Yes. Because this:

I have a feeling that many among the older folks simply don't understand what's going on.
I've pondered this. I think they do. Some are just clueless. Some are Trumptards who think its just a Democratic hoax with crisis actors.

But I suspect a lot are like, "Come get me. I'm too old for this sh*t."

I find it funny that CDC updates the number of cases only Monday through Friday, as if this is 30 year bond yield or something; yet people see US government’s hand behind everything.
The CDC is no longer trustworthy. My wife has worked in health care for over 20 years and made that personal revelation a couple of weeks ago: she can no longer trust the information coming out of it because of how it's being filtered and tainted by government policy.

It's a test run. At the rate we're going, a longer shutdown is inevitable.
Start hoarding the bum guns. You're gonna get shut down. There's no way around it.

Two weeks is pointless. It can take sometimes two weeks to even show symptoms once infected. That would be asinine.

Florida be Florida.

But local governments are morons if they don’t anticipate that happening.

This whole thing cracks me up. I used to work for a company confounded by a super famous entrepreneur who was all about technology miracles. He just started a newsletter as counter-programming to all the bad news, as he wanted to list daily “could be”, “might be”, “it could happen” crap about possible treatments. The idiot is no better than Trump for doing that.

Hey, you may live far long than those 22 year olds in Florida.

In fact, I hope you do. :)

More wives tales of people desperate for miracle treatments.

Your name wouldn’t happen to be Typhoid Mary, would it?

Every 22 year old moron in an motorcycle accident is as good as dead now. That’s the impact of what’s happening.

Da hell does 14 hours buy anyone? I’ve taken dumps that last longer than that.
What do you think we should do? longer than two weeks, no weeks and go back to normal and suffer through it like another virus, etc? For whatever reason it doesn't bother me I still go out and do stuff, people are freaked out but I haven't gotten to that point yet.

I think you need to have heavy compliance for at least three weeks to cover the incubation and symptom period... or longer. Because if the health system collapses, you're screwed. When that happens, you are essentially making every broken arm, pregnancy, cancer diagnosis, and fall down the stairs a much likelier death sentence.

You just know clerics, priests and charlatans are grinning with glee because of this thing
It is definitely crazy time for the apocalyptic cult nut jobs.

Nah, we don't believe this is the apocalypse. We firmly believe we can fight this off with holy cow urine and cow dung. We're socially distancing ourselves from reality.
I’m calling it now. I am worried for you boys. I think India has the potential to become the worst tragedy of all the countries in the world because of COVID-19.

Stay safe. I am really worried for Índia.

You should be. We aren't testing for community transmission yet, we didn't stockpile medical equipment and stopped exports only 3 days ago. We've been slow to react to this thing, aren't planning ahead like other countries and resorting to lockdowns and feel-good PR moves to maintain a sense of normalcy that isgonna vanish within days, if not already. The poor and homeless are gonna be the worst hit when this thing gets out of hand.
