Death toll in China is much higher than their authorities suggest. This is like when USSR said only 50 people died in the Chernobyl disaster. Secondly, I think western media sweep the story under the carpet to give elites more time to prep in peace. Thirdly which is within realms of speculation rather than facts but certainly more plausible than bat soup story - corona is a leaked lab-made bioweapon from the new shiny Wuhan Institute of Virology.
We don't know that.

Also, we never paid attention to world-wide flus. Yet all of the sudden it's all over the place and we're gonna die. I just don't buy it. Seems like a BS to me. Hype was also around sars virus 15 years ago and then it just vanished.

I have a feeling this is just exaggerated to to point that you need to kill Chinese economy as everybody will stop the import of their stuff for a long period of time.

I don't believe this is as big as world is breaking it out to be for the same reasons. IMO it's an economic war, not health war. People just never pay attention to regular flu and death rates on daily bases. It's easy for media to make it sound huge.
At the moment mortality rate for this Coronavirus is around 2.5% (could drop if asymptomatic cases were all accounted for) whereas regular flu has a mortality rate of 0.1% in the US for example.

In first world countries that mortality rate will of course be lower, but it is still significantly higher than regular flu, so if it does approach pandemic level due to how easily it seems to spread, it could kill a lot of people.

The good news is that, even in China, its mortality rate amongst people 0-50 is like 0.3% as it seems to really only be very dangerous for the elderly or those with underlying medical issues.

This is quite common with every flu.

But it’s nothing like Spanish influenza pandemic fears, which mostly targeted young and healthy people.

If you’re young and healthy Covid-19 probably isn’t something to worry about at all.

Of course, but as shown above, mortality rate is vastly higher than seasonal flu. Both in the elderly and in the healthy. There’s not really an argument opposing this, dude. If it spreads on a global scale it’s going to kill a lot more people than seasonal flu, even if fearmongering about it is a little silly.

Look, the hype behind this is huge and why exactly? If it's true then we're gonna wait 18 months for the cure. Guess what, it's (again) pharmacy house that's gonna grab trillions of dollars for a vaccine.

It's not like you can prepare for a flu of such a huge scale. It matters how good your medical system is but besides that you can do nothing about it. You still have to go work, you still have to walk around the town filled with people etc. You can't even do anything in order to try to avoid it. Yet, the media make it sound like the world is collapsing. The economic impact of this is huge and it's gonna hit (only) China.

Also, statistics are shit. Statistics are shit even in football, let alone in such a topic.

who would stand to benefit from that? if china enters a crisis over this then it would drag the rest of the world down with it into recession no? . in fact its probably already going to cause global recession.

China is getting too strong. Of course countries would benefit from this. You have thousands of companies at the moment importing from the EU rather than China like they did for the past ten years. They are getting stronger while China gets weaker. Even regular folks are importing from the EU now.

That’s more Alex Jonesian than Alex himself. Largest companies in the world do most of their manufacturing in China.

C’mon man. You sound like a conspiracy theorist here. From available evidence thus far, this thing has ~10x the mortality rate of seasonal flu. Being aware of this is a good thing, even if we obviously shouldn’t be panicking.

And I have clearly said that fearmongering over it is silly, but so is completely ignoring it and its potential for creating a global pandemic given how it has spread thus far. Is it going to kill ~50 million, like Spanish Influenza? Highly unlikely, but it is spreading and it is significantly more dangerous to those who contract it than seasonal flu.
