A big roll, mmmm

That's a bit dramatic
A time of societal change is a very dangerous time to be in. People who can't shut up about corona seem to be completely oblivious to a much more dangerous undercurrent.

You want to worry? Worry about mass unemployment and moral debt to China.

Elaborate on the last sentence.
You think restaurants will be the same in six months? You think we will commute to work in the same way? We won't.

And not because of corona. But because of the mass panic we created.

This is when the worst of the worst come out to play and exploit people. It's a time to be careful, because we have to decide where we go.

certainly won't be the same until a vaccine is created.

what is the deal with the antibodies test? Is that actually a reliable way to determine if someone is safe to be out? They keep talking about it on the news as a means of allowing people back to work but there have already been confirmed cases of reinfection.

does having antibodies make it less likely to become infected (and able to spread) or does it simply give your immune system better chance to fight off early but you can still spread virus to others?

Hm. Yes and no.

I think we will get rid of corona and most likely just because we have summer coming. Or, if anything, it will lower it by much. I expect commuto to work to be the same as before simply because I expect economy to call everyone to work and in many jobs there is no alternative but to travel, usually with a bus. When it comes to restaurants I expect them to work with less tables and with a distance between them. However, I do believe corona will return. Sooner than expected most likely. And when that happens, then yes, I expect a huge mess. Much bigger mess than this right now. Oh and yea, I still believe what I said a couple weeks back, I think economy will collapse world wide and poverty and starvation to kill a lot more than corona.

What do you guys do with fruit?

Rinse them with water and refrigerate right away or leave them outside for a day without rinsing?
Refrigerate fruit to make it last longer. I personally prefer chilled fruits and veggies.
Before consumption, I give fruits and veggies a quick soapy shower, using a natural soap that is free of heavy-duty chemicals. Especially the case with stuff I won't be peeling.

This largely depends on the actions that governments take to provide a safety net for the populace. I don't think people are going to stop going to restaurants, and there's certainly no real alternative to the MTA here, but maybe some changes to each won't be so bad.

To be fair I know very little about that aspect as I don't really have a primary source of information on it. I do know they look into it when deciding if my father (who is a doctor and was sick with corona for two weeks) is able to return to work.

But like you said, people do seem to get it twice.

I also understand that there is a slight concern that it might act like dengue in that your immune system's response might be way too strong the second time you get it.

So Murica tested 2.8mil and 500k are positive. Why are you laughing at 6+2-1 when he suggests that worldwide hundreds of millions might be infected. Positive rate is rather high among countries and tested/population ratio is rather low, even corrected by the fact that positive rate is pumped by many 'suspicious' coughing people being tested.

I figured leaving them outside for a day after purchase might get rid of any virus (porous surface as with cardboard). They survive longer in fridge.

I'm not sure that will be the case, but we definitely run the risk.

People say it's cynical to point this and say we need to keep our economy running. But those very same people use their cars everyday, while traffic accidents demonstrably kill millions of people every year. All of a sudden their self righteousness melts away, simply because they like an easy means of transportation.

It's almost sickening how blind people can be.

you honestly don't think the economy would be impacted if we let corona run wild? people in power are already being killed and put on intensive care, look at iran and boris johnson. you think those people will keep doing their jobs when they're hospitalized and on their deathbeds?

Now think how many industries have people at their age range who work various jobs from CEOs to production workers to janitors and you'll see every industry would be affected and people would fear for their lives.

Could be. I just don't think we know for sure for how long the virus may survive on different types of surfaces or environmental conditions, just yet. There is a lot of info floating around, not all consistent, and much of it seems to be little more than educated guessing, as we are still learning about covid.
That's why I prefer to wash, whenever possible, whatever fruits and veggies I eat raw/uncooked and do so right before I consume them.

I am starting to think that the brain-trust behind the "let corona on the loose and the economy will flourish" idea didn't exactly spend much time thinking it through ...
