Messi wouldn't play back then. There was no HGH.

Checkmate.
This is always my point lol. Messi wouldn’t have been a pro footballer in any era but the present one... as the treatment he received wasn’t available... nor was the money in the sport pre-90s, for teams to be going and grabbing stunted-midget children and treating them to grow bigger.

Brazil beat them 5-0 just one week ago... what a joke it would be the final

Ugh what a lame final.

Sadly Uruguay was ko'd without actually losing a game and Chile just capitulated vs Peru.

Either this will be a thrashing (again) or Peru will win which is cool I guess......

Would've rather seen my boy Suarez lift another Copa after being robbed these last 2 editions or Chile yeet on everyone and pull a legendary three peat (something which Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina never pulled off).

"Suarez" and "being robbed" in the same sentence  Nothing against Uruguay but they have one of the most dishonest player that ever played the sport and he deserves shit.

Besides you're all undermining Peru's efforts. They got where they are by their own merits. Totally deserved and I hope they go all the way unless Brazil pulls an old school performance.

well robbed in the sense that he wasn't able to participate...... due to biting another human being...... unprovoked....... but still robbed nonetheless.

He may be a dickhead but when he actually played for Uruguay, no one in international football had such an effect on their teammates. The difference between Uruguay with and without Suarez esp from 2011-2016 was night and day.

In regards to Peru their team and journey are just so meh. Can't really call em an under dog to win the tourney considering they featured in the WC and the format of the Copa.

Agree about that, it's a much better team with him than without but that's because he's a great player.

I wouldn't call it meh, they did alright. You gotta fight with the weapons you're given and they don't have stars or extremely skilled players yet they managed to stop two of the biggest nations in the competition, so credit where it's due.

You're right about the format though. In reality they shouldn't have made it out of the group stage finishing as 3rd. But oh well...

Well let's keep in mind that Suarez was also apart of Forlan's Uruguay ;)

But damn Forlan was a monster

I pretty much agree with all this. But shit man if they lose the final vs Brazil they'd be ending the tourney with a record of 3-2-1, with one of those wins coming via pens. That's pretty underwhelming, but at the end of the day it is always nice to see the underdog come through. I think apart of it has to do with the fact that Peru hasn't played with the same tenacity that we've seen from other great under dogs.....
