While it might have been risky back then, it is even riskier today. Today we definitely are not as sovereign financially, as we were. Back then we could have pulled a big transfer ourselves as well, if it were necessary because something did not work out as expected.
its riskier to sell marchisio in our situation than baggio back then?

we are talking about one of the greatest of his generation vs. a good midfielder but nothing more.

we already own asamoah and pogba. with 30+ millions we should be more than capable of improving our team despite loosing marchisio.

From the numbers being thrown around Monaco does seem to rate him. Also the Man United fans I know were really excited when he was linked with them...
Liverpool bought Andy Carroll for 35 mil. It doesn't mean a player is great and worth that amount. We should feel lucky if Monaco is willing to pay that amount for Marchiso, which is probably BS. And for Man U, the best player they have in a mid field is Paul Scholes, of course they would fap over Marchiso.

Ok, that's exaggerated. But its a risk I'd not take in the current phase of our project.

Sell him for 37M. Go to Madrid with 50M and buy Di Maria + Coentrao.

Lichtsteiner-Barzagli-Chiellini-Coentrao
Pogba-Asamoah
Di Maria - Vidal - Tevez
Llorente

I think Pogba could be a significantly better player than Marchisio. But I would only want to sell him for an insanely good price. Marchisio is a great team player and would be a valuable member for years to come. But he shouldnt start ahead of Pogba on a considtent basis at this point. Pogba gets better with each game and I think we've seen the most we will see of Marchisio.

imo many 15 mil mids, like nainggolan or inler, are more than capable replacements. If we do indeed sell him for 36 mil wed have about 20 extra mils to boost quality elsewhere.
Exactly! There's almost an abundance of good CM nowadays, we can even try going for Sahin for cheap.

I don't think we'll buy an Inler quality for the midfield if we sell Marchisio. Pogba and Asamoah will cover the position. All, or most of the money will go for other positions.

I'm also thinking about the 36m eur number, and if it's real or invention, as it sounds. Is that his value or close to it? If he was a Milan or Inter starter, how much would you guys be willing Juve to pay for Marchisio? Personally I'd find even 20m a lot. That's why it's hard to accept the 36m eur offer as a possibility. On the other hand, Ranieri is Monaco's coach and it's possible that he asked his employers to get him Marchisio at any price. Monaco are indeed a team that could overpay for a player. Also, in this situation our guys will definitely try to squeeze as much possible and I wouldn't ignore a possibility where Ranieri insists for Marchisio, Monaco makes offers, we refuse them, and we finally got to a 36m eur offer.

36 million is a lot and if we could use it to get a truly special player then I believe we should consider such a fantastic offer, but...

Even for Jovetic, I say turn it down. And there are no other pressing transfers we ought to make.

Marchisio > JoJo

Tell Monaco to shove it up their ass! Il principino stays!!!

his valuation? 15 mil in italy, 20 outside imo, from a buyer's point of view. If we stick with pogba we will defnitely buy another mid, if we choose to go with asamoah then we'll get his replacement on the left.

But what makes him worth €36m to Monaco? Just because they can pay that, like they have already?
fair valuations are based on will, if theres no will, in this case to sell him or for him to leave, then it would have to be this kind of offer.

I'm only assuming, but it could be that Ranieri was asked who does he need to make Monaco champions of France or secure a CL spot. He wants Marchisio. Afterall, Marchisio was a starter and an important part of Juventus and Italy. Then Monaco do what you mention above. They can pay the money. They want to get their players at any price. Juve know that Monaco can pay much more than Marchisio's value, and we're playing the game now.
It doesn't sound that impossible to my ears when I read my post loudly :D
