IMO, Hamsik would be an upgrade on all of our midfielders. Marchisio is just another average serie A player, saw him at the world cup, is nothing special. Shows what a joke of a squad we have when he's suppose to be one of our better players.

Melo has quality and he gave this team much more this season than Marchisio, despite their freedom being cut down.

Much more? Seems like I missed that game.

Anyway, they're both among our 5 best performers overall this season.

When has Marchisio EVER shown world class ability? WHEN?

There is no reason to say he'll become a world class player when he absolutely never shows world class ability for his own current team.

We like Marchisio because he's a Juventino and does well at times, but stop going overboard with the adjectives.

That is true.

Sadly, that goes for everyone on our team apart from Chiellini & Buffon. And maybe a younger DP.


Thing is, Marchisio is among our worst earners, while being a key player (bitch about it if you want, he always plays when fit, that makes him a key player whether we want it or not).

Aquilani earns 3 times what he does, yet performs worse.
Bonucci makes almost double iirc, yet performs worse.
Grosso & Brazzo make more than double, yet mostly aren't even in the squad.
And the list goes on and on.

Marchisio absolutely deserves an improved contract, but he obviously should not be earning what Chiellini's getting.

"Deserves" by virtue of the management stupidly handing out high wages to any random lame player that signs for us, maybe. "Deserves" in terms of what he brings to the table? That's debatable. The club's name shouldn't necessarily dictate that all its employees are multi-millionaries by default.

Does anyone know what sort of salary Montolivo (Marchisio's closest equivalent, as far as I'm concerned) is on? I bring this up in light of the constant talk of streamlining the budget. It's time for them to actually put some of this into practice. Napoli, a much more competitive team than us as it stands, probably have a third of our personnel costs. If that.
