A double score by Trezeguet gives Juventus three golden points and allow them to keep up with Bayern on top of Group A. It wasn’t easy to beat them but the determination they had searching the goal finally awarded Capello’s side.

The match is much struggled and the tempo is particularly high in the first few minutes. Bayern are the first to attack: after 4 minutes, Ballack follows Deisler’s free kick and attempts on goal, Abbiati clears high over the crossbar. One minute later, Juventus reply with Trezeguet who, served by Chiellini, drives a right-footed shot from a twenty-metre range which Kahn punches away. On 12’ minutes, Makaay makes the most of a moment of uncertainty of the Bianconeri’s defence but the ball gets past the post. The same happens to Trezeguet’s finish, following Zambrotta’s cross from the right (14’). On 16’ minutes, Pizarro, on Deisler’s free kick, heads the ball too high over the bar. In the last few minutes, the match’s tempo slows down compared to the beginning of the first half, however Juventus keep on creating occasions in search of the goal, preventing their opponents to threat their side of the pitch, until the referee’s whistle for the break.

During the break, Capello replaces Del Piero with Nedved. On the 1’ minute, Zé Roberto serves Makaay, but Kovac successfully anticipates him. On 5’ minutes, Ibrahimovic tries a ground shot on goal, Kahn clears. Two minutes later, Zé Roberto shoots a free kick which ends high over the bar. On 8’ minutes, Nedved assists Ibrahimovic in the box but his shot hits a defender. The Bianconeri’s coach makes one more substitution: Kovac out, Camoranesi in. On 17’ minutes, the Bianconeri take the lead: Ibrahimovic passes to Nedves, the Czech is countered by an opponent but the ball gets to Trezeguet who beats Kahn with his left-footed shot (1-0). An important goal for Juventus but also for the Frenchman who reaches 105 goals in his Juventus career and outdoes his fellow countryman Platini in the book of records of all-time scorers. However, it takes Bayern only 5 minutes to take the draw: Deisler shoots a free kick from a thirty-metres range and the ball gets in (1-1). After thirty minutes into the second half, Capello replaces Camoranesi with Mutu. Juventus keep on attempting on goal but the German defence keeps good guard. On 38’ minutes, following Nedved’s corner shot, Vieira tries to head the ball in but the it eventually ends out. On 40’ minutes, efforts are finally rewarded to Capello’s side. It’s Trezeguet again to score a very important goal and to give Juventus the lead once again: Vieira passes, Trezegoal controls the ball like he’s used to and beats Kahn again with a right-footed drive (2-1). And he gets to 106. Bayern react with Schweinsteiger, whose kick from the edge of the box ends out (42’). In the final minutes, Ibrahimovic was sent off after two yellow cards. With this win, Juventus reach the Germans on top of Group A.

“As expected, it was a hard match, against a solid side with top technical qualities, tough to beat. I had said they were dangerous on set-pieces and in fact they got dangerous with headers following free kicks and scored on a still ball”. Fabio Capello earns three precious points that allow the Bianconeri to catch up with Bayern on top of Champions League Group A. Against the Germans, Capello surprised everyone choosing a three-man defence with Kovac, Thuram and Cannavaro: “I wanted the two outside, Zambrotta and Chiellini, to push on the flanks. I reckoned we could be more dangerous with three defenders, four midfielders and Del Piero, first, and then Nedved behind the strikers. In the second half I changed because the two outside had expended too much and thus I wanted Nedved on the left and Camoranesi and Mutu on the right to keep on pushing”. The game wasn’t particularly spectacular but the result is absolutely important: “When you play you always have to keep your opponents’ worth in mind and Bayern are a very good side, physically and technically strong. They’ll be tough to be for everyone”. It was once again Trezeguet’s night, as he, scoring the two goals, gave Juventus the win and outdid his distinguished fellow countryman Platini in goals scored in a Juventus jersey. David has achieved 106 goals, against the 104 scored by Michel: “I think that Trezeguet has few rivals in the penalty area. With his technique and talent in scoring I think he’s the world best in the last sixteen metres”

TBH the argument that Bayern lost the game rather than we winning it could be made in our favour in Munich as well.
naaa i dont think so.
we were not at bayern to lose and bayern did not go to turin to lose the game.

look at the second Goal trezeguet made, if that was acting from Viera ,trezeguet and the bayern defends AND kahn than they deserf an oscar.

bayern was better in muchin and Juventus was better in Torino ;) thats it

Vieira looked very weak, apart from the pass to Trez. Wasn't impressed by Emerson either. Hmm what else...

I guess we're not in form right now as a whole.

Great post Martin... Spot on in all counts.

Another thing that pisses me off , is that ppl r happy that Ibra got A red card..this is unacceptable.ppl should see the bigger picture here.
Exactly, I don't understand y ppl r rejoicing over Zlatan's sent off.

I know that he can have some rest, but the behaviour from some fans in here is juz unacceptable.

Howexacly was this a poor game? We won, had a couple of chances and Bayern only scored from a mistake of Abiatti! You are overreacting dude.
Yes, we won and against a big team like Bayern...But yet again we didn't take control of the game. I'm not saying we played bad...But TBH I expected more from my team.

Trez proud to pip Platini Thursday 3 November, 2005

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Trezeguet has revealed his pride at overtaking Michel Platini’s goalscoring record for Juventus on Wednesday night.

Trezeguet’s brace in the 2-1 win over Bayern Munich puts him on 106 goals for the Bianconeri, which moves him above Platini and John Charles and into the top ten of highest all-time Juve goalscorers.

“I am proud and delighted to overtake Platini’s record,” said the France international. “He is a legend in France and Italy.

“It’s a very emotional personal landmark because to play in a club of this stature and break records is an incredible feeling.”

‘Trezegol’ also received glowing praise from Juve Coach Fabio Capello, who compared him to the great Paolo Rossi.

“We all know what Trezeguet can do,” he said. “If you leave him unmarked for a second he punishes you. He’s like a fish in water.

“He has the rare and extraordinary ability to sniff out goals from nowhere,” he continued. “He reminds me of Paolo Rossi.”

Paolo Rossi was a great striker indeed, but Trezeguet has already long-since overtaken the Italian’s goalscoring feats for Juve.

juve had 3 tough games in 7 days.

if you look at the other major champions league contenders.

chelsea lost 1-0 to betis who the trashed two weeks ago and are 17th in spain.

man utd lost to Lille enough said.

milan lost to psv(psv a totally new team without last years stars van bommel vogel park and lee po)

the only team in the champions league to play good consistantly is lyon then maybe arsenal, arsenal are in a shit group and lyon are good but still underdogs.

we expect too much sometimes, i thought there was a huge improvement in the performance last night compared with the milan and first bayern match

top of serie A only two defeats so far should top our champions league group now, while milan struggle away in ISTANBUL with fenerbache and then shalke at home so hope they suffer some more in serie A.

i think this result over bayern is a good positive step and a confidence booster that was needed after the milan performance, mark my words bayern are a very good side and will do well in this competition.

hope this result will bring juve a step forward

Martin has been the voice of reason around here, kudos to him for that. I can't believe that people are actually complaining about a bad game here, whining about "lack of control". Newsflash for you, NO TEAM in the world could control team like Bayern. Juve played perfectly balanced, didn't let Bayern have any chances (even though Émerson tried to :D) and snapped a deserved victory with the brace of one of the most underrated players in these forums. When Buffon, Zebina, Camoranesi etc. get back on track, this team is unstopable, mark my words. Now let's just wish for the best and hope for injury-free times for a change.

My match comments in rather different from some of u.

In front of a pathetic audience of 16000 @ Delle Alpi, we managed to play convincely for the full 90 minutes, getting our revenge and basically grabbing 3 important points. Everybody did what they have to do within their boundaries, with some of them performing while some did not, and in the end it turn out to be a sweet victory for Juventus. Now let's go on with the players.

Abbiati - Not tested much but he actually did a decent job. Apart from the Deisler superb free kick from 40 yards which he incorrectly misjudged, he saved us at times. For Deisler's strike, none of our defenders actually been able to touch it. In the 1st half, he has to leap to tap a ball out that somehow rebounded off Cannavaro's head.

Kovac - Played against his former teammates and effectively shutting down Pizarro, who's been a main threat. But he seemed to foul too much and deservedly pick up a yellow card. Been solid defensively despite making some bad passes around the field, but too bad Capello has to take him off to make way for Camo. At least he's more realiable than Blasi.

Cannavaro - Superb defending and heading skills. No wonder Makaay is invisible and Pizarro is frustrated the whole night long.

Thuram - Solid defending. Good old Thuram

Chiellini - I was rather glad that he can play for 90 minutes. This young lad is full of grit and determination, running up and down and crossing to our players to score. However when he shoots the ball seems to go everywhere except into the net.

Emerson - Solid as rock. No wonder Bayern players r frustrated.

Vieira - Defensively ok, however his passing ability seems off. Some of his passes manage to end up with a Bayern player. But despite that his magnificant pass to Trezeguet was class with the latter finishing with a superb goal.

Zambrotta - Impressive offensively and defensively. Even though he plays on the right, his performance gives me a thumbs-up. Provided a deep cross in the 1st half which Trezeguet failed to convert.

DP - Perhaps he has been tried in his new position that he seemed so lost. His freekicks were somehow headed out by a defender. I'm patient to see DP performs well.

Zlatan - In the 1st half he was not impressive. It was in the 2nd half that he played brilliantly. Managed some tricks to fool the whole Bayern defence and some beautiful flicks too. Even managed to get past players such as Sagnol and Deisler. No wonder that whole Bayern defence looks so choatic. Too bad his temper costed him to be sent off.

Trez - He played positively running around and helping out. Scored 2 wonder goals which helped the team a lot. Definitely 1 of the most underrated strikers in the world.

Nedved - Perhaps that it is the bench time he received that he somehow learnt to play right at last. Made some passes and crosses which Bayern have to struggle to clear.

Camo - Not a good game for him. Fouled Ze Roberto 3 times. He seemed pretty awkward in game and Ze Roberto managed to overtake him. Was even booked. Now I understand y Capello took him out and introduce Mutu instead.

Mutu - Given only 14 minutes to play. Was performing better than Camo and gave Ze Roberto some trouble. Even tried to score.

Capello introduced a 4-3-1-2 system which is very intresting to watch. I would love to see Mutu behind the strikers instead of Nedved/DP and see how it will turn out.

I agree wholeheartedly with Erkka's comments. We had more ball possession than Bayern in both halves and defeat Bayern convincely with passes and 2 wonder strikes. Bayern is not an easy team to defeat and to win this game is already so difficult. I honestly don't understand what u ppl expect. We didn't play lacksturely. We managed to press Bayern and I see our players in the Bayern half most of the time in the 2nd half. Maybe we should press them for 90 minutes? I don't think it is possible TBH.

Zlatan was sent off, did he deserved it? Of course
Was that unsporting conduct? Yes
Is he frustrated? From the way he kicked Isamel and Ballack, of course
Should we be happy when he is sent off? NO WAY

Zlatan is a Juve player, and no Juve fan should actually rejoicing about his sending off. Remember he contributes to our team despite his lack of form this season. Look at last season alone and see how many goals he scored for us or his tricks to help us. I know that he is hot-tempered and irrational, but I really hope that he should mature and control his temper more. Zlatan is an interesting prospect, and I don't wish to see his tempers get his way.

Last of all Forza Juve
Congrats for the win against Bayern

are u still a prospect at 24?

bottom line, his 'massive skills' are overrated, his flicks and tricks very rarely come off,and when they do, so what, they don't add anything to the team, his passing skills are limited, his shooting is worse and he has a temperament from hell.

I don't think people are rejoicing that he was sent off, it came too late in the game to make a difference but he got what he deserved, no doubt.

imo he's not the superman he's made out to be, more like a liability.

unfortanately looks like cap will persist with this supreme 'striker' all season. yee ha
