This Madrid team isn't as strong as some people seem to believe. Ronaldo is what makes the difference.
Indeed. Place Benzema instead of Ronaldo, and the Madrid team that started yesterday's match doesn't really strike fear. It's basically a team we could match player for player, without notable difference in quality.

Casillas - Buffon
Carvajal - Lichtsteiner
Pepe - Chiellini
Varane - Bonucci
Marcelo - Evra
Kroos - Pirlo
Ramos - Vidal
Isco - Marchisio
James - Pereyra
Chicarito - Morata
Benzema - Tevez

But Ronaldo immediately makes a huge difference. Plus they'll probably have Bale too in the starting XI.

Yup, Real with the much better player obviously in that particular comparison, but make it Ramos vs Pereyra and Vidal vs James (those duels will actually happen) and its more balanced. The point is, without Ronaldo, this current Real is a team we can match both 11 vs 11, and player for player.

Sturaro instead of Pirlo and i'm cool with it
You taking the piss surely? Who the fuck is Sturaro to start this game? The opportunity to give one moment of magic is worth more then Sturaro's insignificant career so far. Yeah Pirlo will be slight liability in his current declined state and chance to lose possession needlessly, but its one thing to want to bench him for Marchisio, Pogba and Vidal for more safety, if they were all available I would bench him, but Sturaro? Kid is out of his depth in this level until he shows something, anything, let alone start in biggiest game of the season for us. Pirlo is a pure artist who can at any moment make the unexpected happen.

Plus Real's style isnt the kind of team that makes me nervous to start Pirlo, they dont press that aggressively or are that compact, most of their midfielders are creative ones (besides out of depth Ramos). He already did quite well vs them not so long ago...

Pirlo could be a disaster, but I think i'd pick him over Sturaro because of this experience (and Sturaro's lack of experience) in this kind of games. Also, he wasn't so terrible against Real last season.

Pirlo is a huge defensive liability, whilst apart from freekicks, Marchisio offers significantly more and allows us to play far better in the midfield, even if its Sturaro and not the mighty Pogba.

You go ahead and play Pirlo. Meaning Marchisio and Vidal will play a lower quality game due to obvious restrictions. Meaning Madrids midfield will cope with ours, meaning they should have not much problem reaching the wingers and make plenty of offensive plays.

You are missing the point. Its not about Madrid pressing us, its about our ability to press Madrid. We absolutely need to win the central midfield and cut of the fast supply to the wingers. Madrid will have great difficulties playing against a Marchisio, Sturaro, Vidal, Pereyra midfield, and thanks to using Marchisio as cdm, we can commit far more players running deeper into counter attacks, wich you simply cannot do when you have Pirlo.
And we've allready seen Marchisio can launch plays just as good with his balls over the defence.

Its not about Pirlo versus sturaro. Its about Marchisio versus Pirlo and the whole playstyle shift that comes with it.
