The playstyle shifts, and I would agreed with you if we had better alternative, but the good outweights the bad in this case because there is a huge difference in quality between Pirlo and Sturaro, the latter has barely shown he is better then Padoin even. A limited random fill in fringe player is not as useful as Pirlo, despite the risks and shift in style it comes with. Pure quality matters first and foremost, Sturaro will do what he has done so far, chase around the ball acomplishing nothing, Pirlo may slow down our play, but also seamlessly spread possession or make direct penetrating passes to our forward runs (besides the obvious set piece threat). Besides hustle and bustle, what would Sturaro bring us?

Of course we'll play Pirlo if the alternative is Sturaro. No disrespect to him, but Sturaro is the definition of unexperienced, and even though he's strung up some nice games lately and I rate him as a pretty useful player and good pickup, he's nowhere near Pirlo's level.

If Pogba was fit, or if we had a CM of let's say Asamoah's or Allan's quality available, I'd bench Pirlo. But with Sturaro, it's not even up for debate, and I'm sure Allegri agrees with that.

Doesnt need to bring anything else, difference between marchisio cdm and pirlo cdm is huge enough. If he does his job of closing space and winning duels in the midfield, thats allready enough

You never leave player like Pirlo on the bench.
Marchisio - vidal, Pogba - Pereyra

Pirlo benched forever if that team is fit son

We still actually need to play ball, and we have 5 times better chances of making something happen with Pirlo on the pitch instead of Sturaro. If all it took was just running around chasing the ball, we wouldnt be in this level competing vs the champions of Europe for the chance to get the title.

It's not about usefulness, obviously it's not even questionable. But with the fast paced players Madrid has, playing Pirlo would simply be too risky. It's more a question of who's going to be less of a liability. And we don't even know if Pirlo's going to be able to impose his game.

We can't make up for his potential errors, it's safer to do without what he can bring. We're not the favourites, we can't take risks.

He probably won't be benched, so hopefully things work out.

You keep comparing Pirlo to Sturaro, wich is not the point.

Its about playing Marchisio or Pirlo CDM. When you play Pirlo, you limit the quality Vidal and Marchisio can produce significantly, limit the counterability, and make the game much harder for tevez.

These limitations make a team with Pirlo inferior to the team with Marchisio

Fuck it, past two games in serie a, the moments where we had the marchisio CDM team set up, you could see a massive improvement in how we domminated the opponent, aswel as the offensive flow and defensive solidity. This difference will extrapolate itself against Madrid.

Yesss.That mercenary who always support garbage town rats when we play against them and Juve make a Ballon'Dor player of him.He was first with Capello to leave us.Other mercenaries like Zambrotta,Camelface Zlatan,Thuram,Emerson.... .That's why ,beside their player values I rate utmost Pavel,Gigi,Del Piero,Trezeguet,Camoranesi .Sorry if I forgot somebody.

----Pirlo
Vidal--Marchisio
--Pereyra
------Tevez
---Morata

This team will force Vidal and Marchisio to stick closer to Pirlo and Pereyra to play deeper. Tevez or Morata will be more easely defender, cause if one drops off deeper, the other is more isolated.
Offensive movement by Marchisio and Vidal is limited due to the proneness of the center to counterattacks. The speed in wich the entire midfield can shift forward but remain in shape is pretty slow.

==================================
=================================

----Marchisio
--Vidal---Sturaro

------Pereyra
---Tevez-Morata

Marchisio cdm allows quick transition and movement of the midfield. Vidal and Sturaro are free to play a far more reckless pressing and attacking game, any creative midfield will struggle greatly against the duelpower of this midfield, We have a very strong counterattacking transition, and tevez consistantly got running players to play off too.

You pick what you prefer.
