It's pretty predictable to me. We played with a lot of intensity, especially due to enthusiasms and hunger to win the game. Allegri foresaw this and knew that we'd eventually run out of gas. Real Madrid beat Atletico several times this way, the perfect example was the final of a couple of years ago where they defeated them after extra time. Although it is a really tough comparison to make, but this is usually the way we approach games in the league. We let opponents run out of gas and hit them late in the game. Allegri told the team to chill the fuck down because, as things seemed in the first half, it wasn't unthinkable that this game could go to extra time. It is strange how things went from there because we are usually pretty comfortable when soaking up attacks. We gambled on taking the lead somewhere in the second half, however, we conceded pretty early and it demoralized us completely. What happened the 30/35 minutes thereafter is in no need of evaluation. Was it a bad approach? not sure. The only issue i have with it is that you can't allow Kroos and especially Modric, or any other world class midfielder to have so much time and space in possession. I didn't see Real Madrid give Dybala for example much space or time to move freely around their box.
We as fans and the players themselves put immense pressure on this game and in the end this killed us. We were never favorites against an opponent who won the title twice in the last three years and simply have a habit of winning these finals. I hope the team stays together but it is really difficult to predict how we will react from this defeat mentally. This might set us back to square one or might make us stronger and more mentally prepared. Only time will tell.
