I would argue Modric was every bit as important as Bale.
Modric made the first goal and was generally in control of midfield, giving Bale plenty of balls and giving him the ball early enough that Inter weren't in a position to get tight to Modric.
On the other had, Inter forwards were always tightly marked when they got the ball, because Muntari and Zanetti couldn't get the ball forward to them quickly.
