I know he isn't, but the Prem Marketeers like to think he is.

Ronaldo and Messi have played in straight 4-4-2 systems before, the former with United for years. :howler:

It doesn't matter where the players roam. Every single time I watch Ronaldo play he takes it down the left flank. Who cares if he cuts it inside. The whole definition of a winger is someone who exploits space on the flanks . They're wingers, sorry.
Messi in a 4-4-2? :lol2: Give me a break. Ronaldo may have played that in the beginning of his Man Utd years cause he was supposed to replace Beckham. Soon Fergie realized he's much better utilized further up.

100% correct. It's a completely different role and Andy knows this.
No it isn't. They're still fielded on the wings and exploit the space towards the flank. Whether it be a straight 4-4-2, a 4-3-3, or 4-2-3-1, those on the outside are indeed wingers. They have been known as such for years and they still are today.

I have no idea why you're trying to argue this, but I think it's because Tottenham is involved.

I know he's playing as ACM right now but I remember him owning the left flanks, especially in the world cup. Maybe he just likes to move there
He played centrally in the World Cup as well.

Muller and Podolski were on the wings for Germany.

Messi has never played in a straight 4-4-2. Ronaldo did it at United for two or three seasons and he was the best winger at that time but he hasn't played in that position for a couple of years.

Oh and Andy, just so I don't disappoint you. Tonight:

    1. Bale
    2. Modric

    :weee:
    I like Modric. Always have.

He's played that role in Argentina before. Although it can be said it was a 4-2-4. Either way, they're still wingers.

I guess revisionary fanboyism is cool though.

You sound like an idiot right now so I'm going to stop talking to you. Why is it that Ronaldo and Messi are nominated for best forward and not best midfielder then? We obviously have a different definition of what a pure winger is, either that or you're being stubborn.

What does Tottenham have to do with this? I don't give a fuck about them.

Yes Messi did. If you are deployed out left in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, and your name is Ronaldo, someone who takes the ball down the left flank as he does currently, he's a winger. He isn't given a free role up top or a striker's or withdrawn striker's role, he's given the spot out left.

He's a winger. Cut out the fanboyism. I even hate Ronaldo.

I would argue Modric was every bit as important as Bale.

Modric made the first goal and was generally in control of midfield, giving Bale plenty of balls and giving him the ball early enough that Inter weren't in a position to get tight to Modric.

On the other had, Inter forwards were always tightly marked when they got the ball, because Muntari and Zanetti couldn't get the ball forward to them quickly.

V and stu are funny. they both claim bale is the best winger, and when someone mentions a clearly superior winger, there response: but he's not a winger. lol

No doubt, but that's just because they look similar. ;) Even though they have some of the same characteristics.
I think he lacks the speed and directness. They have similar footballing brains though.
From interviews I have read I think Luka really idolises him. The fact he has #14 is no coincidence. :D

What do you "even" hate Ronaldo for?
