Any news from Arsenal? Who's playing and who's not?
Ljungberg and Campbell will miss out on Juventus clash
Arsenal v Juventus
Champions League Q/F Leg 1
Arsenal Stadium, Highbury
Tue, Mar 28, 2006, 7.45pm
By Richard Clarke

Freddie Ljungberg and Sol Campbell will not be fit for the Champions League tie with Juventus at Highbury on Tuesday night.

The Swedish midfielder has been troubled by a calf injury he picked up against Liverpool on March 12 while the England defender has been out since February 1 with bruising on his ankle.

“I wanted to play Sol tomorrow,” said Arsène Wenger at his pre-game press conference on Monday. “But I cannot because he could not practice today. He got a kick so it will be two or three days for him.

“Freddie Ljungberg had a setback on his calf last week so he will not make it.”

Wenger has named a 18-man squad for the first leg against Juventus:

Jens Lehmann
Manuel Almunia
Robert Pires
Gilberto
Alexander Hleb
Cesc Fabregas
Abou Diaby
Alexandre Song
Theo Walcott
Jose Antonio Reyes
Robin van Persie
Dennis Bergkamp
Thierry Henry
Philippe Senderos
Kolo Toure
Emmanuel Eboue
Mathieu Flamini
Johan Djourou

it might sound funny but i think we should be afraid of bergkamp also. the man is old, but he still knows how to score, and i remember in groupstage when he scored a very late goal(92minute), so we need to defend well.

Oh what good news of Campbell and Ljunberg's injury.

That leaves them with no solid defender. I was looking forward to Zambrotte guarding Ljundberg though, would'be been a great match-up.

Bergkamp won't post a threat if we keep the pressure against Arsenal very high.

But if they are able to launch balls into our 6-yard box, then Bergkamp would pose a threat as he still has great balance and could exploit little spaces that we could leave at the back.

Besides that, I think Veiria should do the marking against Henry. Who else to do the job than a man who has played with the guy for years 'eh?

But I seriously think we should leave a man marking Henry and let Emerson handle the rest. What do you guys think?

i dont think so, i mean if someone starts following henry only, it might be just a cover, like viera follows henry, and same time hleb or persie makes a move. its our defens who needs to play well. and actually viera can help our forwards in attack, he hasnt played against arsenal, but its still a english club and he has played against other english clubs(i mean english style might suit for him).

If zebina starts i hope he doesnt go forward much, he doesnt seem to stay back much recently.

I thought Zebina was injured?

Anyway, I would rather give Henry no chance all night than do Zonal Marking and give Henry and Hleb the possibility of having both half-chances? Persie would be Thuram or Canna's responsibility.

We have to be weary though as if we play the defense high, we risk the chance of Arsenal breaking the offside trap which would almost certainly allow Henry, Persie, or Reyes out-pacing our defenders.

As I mentioned before, we're not really fast. We're strong, but only Zambro and Camo can run like cheetahs in our team.

what i mean about bergk is that he is playing as a sub, he doesnt start and coming in after 65 minute, fresh, he can surprise our defens, who has handled with henry and persie and reyes.

actually arsenal has a pretty decent attack, henry and persie and reyes role is to support them, and persie and reyes are imo very decent players who can do their job very well.

yes, youre right about that. and ou boy how fast arsenal can be. arsenal is not a team who plays long ball and waits for the chanses, they attack and play from the ground, imo moust of the attack goes through reyes and persey. against real i remember henry was moving everywhere, his not like our ibra and trez who stay forward. henry moves around a lot, so it will be very hard to mark him, though if our dm duo plays well, then henry wont have much room to run forward and back....

about zebina, eh well his on the list, so his ok i guess(from juventus.com)

Capello: “Arsenal know how to play football”

After training in the morning at the Sisport centre and a quick lunch, Juventus left for London where they arrived early this afternoon. As is tradition, they have not trained this afternoon, and have tried to find time to relax ahead of the challenge that faces them. Meanwhile, Capello faced the press to discuss Tuesday evening’s game: “Obviously it will be a difficult match: Arsenal are a great squad who know how to play football, but we are also strong and the Juventus that I saw against Roma was very pleasing.” The Juve coach is expecting an attacking onslaught from his opponents: the Gunners have won their last three games in the Premiership, scoring nine goals and conceding only one, and will hope to extend their good from to the Champions League: “In every European match, when you play at home, you concentrate on attacking, especially if you can rely on the likes of Henry in front of you, so we will have to be very focused.”

Yes, Henry plays like DP. They thrive from midfield leading up to the attack.

This is why I brought up the issue of Vieira marking him whenver he moves down to build the attack. It's sort of like a "poke-it-before-it-starts" method.

But yes, I dont think they will play long ball against a pyshically strong team like us. They will want to move the ball on the ground fast in a small pitch like Highbury.

But the "smallness" of this pitch could also be an advantage for us since we could launch balls early from behind and have Trez and Ibra just a few meters from the box already.

I hope Zlatan doesn't get caught offside too much later. He's been a little lazy getting back the past few games.

I think though that Vieira and Emerson could easily close down the midfield in such a small pitch.

Who are you kidding?? While Ibra couldve simply passed the ball to DP and DP tapping it in. Zlatan opted for shooting it, maybe he was thinking it could deflect off someone and go in, I dont know what he was thinking but that was a plain and stupid shot!

I was done with school quite a long time ago. And I've probably seen more Juve's players than you. If we've been patient with DP (actually getting good results this year) for years, I don't see why we can't be patient with Ibra for few months.
I think this had to do with the fact that while DP was off-form years ago, no one else could step-up to the same level as he was. It was either the replacements were mediocre (Zalayeta, Salas) or the only able replacement also needed to be rested (Di Vaio).

As I mentioned before, the only reason why Zlatan made so much impact last year is because the timing was perfect when everyone was expecting so much from DP. Zlatan raised his game at the right time when DP was blowing hot & cold performances. This year though, it's not the same story and no matter what people argue, DP still is performing much better than the balkan, hence, relegating Zlatan to the bench more often than last year.

But still, Zlatan isn't playing shitty like what others are saying. Don't worry about Zlatan, he's got yeards to play for Juve. It's just not going his way at the moment, it doesn't erase the huge, let me repeat that, HUGE potential he's got.

Of course, he's got to prove it. He can't rest on his laurels from last year's performance.

OKay, I don't know how many people follow the EPL but apart from the obvious, who else do we need to watch out for other than Henry?

I know Reyes has speed, but is he on form? How about Hleb?

Where did he go from 1998-2006? Jupiter? Slovakia?
Wrong. Before I moved to the US, in 2002, I was at the stadium every other Sunday. I watched him everytime. I was waiting for him, hoping. I haven't been a honest fan. DP had to be on the field, no matter what. He played one good game out of five.
2002/2003 we played (quite) well and reached the final mostly thanks to a blond czech guy who was running around every part of the field at double pace than other people.
Now we have one of the greatest YOUNG talent around. Well, he's not playing at his best, that's true. Do we wanna sell him to some other big european team and see him getting the "Golden Ball" next year or two?
This is another Henry-like case. I'm not a big Capello fan, but I gotta give him this. With him DP finally doesn't have to play every single game (like it was written in the Bible...) and he's sticking with the young talent.

This is a cheap comment.
Take a look at the game.

Other than a loss, the worst thing that can happen is a 0-0 draw.
It's wierd that Arsenal have conceeded only 1 in the last 8 games but on the same note, we score everytime we step on2 the pitch ( except once) & I dont expect that 2 change. I think it's gonna be about outscoring rather than out defending each other....

Lets Go UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUV
