Serie A - Chivu rejects Real offer
Roma defender Cristian Chivu has rejected Real Madrid - because they are not offering him enough cash.

The clubs agreed an 18 million euro fee on Wednesday but 26-year-old Chivu - whose contract expires at the end of next season - was offered a greater wage by Roma's Serie A rivals Internazionale, who withdrew from the bidding war for the Romania stopper because they were reluctant to stump up the full transfer fee.

"We have reached an agreement with Roma," Real president Calderon told radio station Onda Madrid. "But we now have to agree personal terms with the player and from what I've been told there are substantial differences over the salary.

"We have to study it very carefully because the demands are in excess of our predictions."

"Real Madrid's wage offer was way below Inter's proposal," Chivu's agent Victor Becali confirmed.

"Chivu will remain with Roma unless Real make a new offer."

Roma made it clear that they wanted to cash-in on the left-sided defender by not offering him a new, improved deal after he helped them finish second in Serie A this season, signing Juan from Bayer Leverkusen as a replacement. But it appears their determination to secure the same figure they paid Ajax for him four years ago could leave them empty-handed.

"If Chivu leaves as free agent next year, his future club could pay him a 7-8 million euro salary [around £100,000 per week] as they would not need to pay a transfer fee," Becali confirmed.

"Inter made Chivu a good offer but the clubs were unable to agree on a transfer fee."

Becali was keen to point out that Chivu would still like to move to the Spanish champions, but that they would have to revise their wage proposals.

"The ball is in Real Madrid's court now," he added.

"If the offer is not satisfactory, Chivu will see out his contract at Roma."

In the past Real's board have been notoriously reluctant to pay defensive players in the same bracket as their attacking "Galacticos", with the sacking of title-winning coach Fabio Capello implying that they are to return to this policy.

Real Madrid's Chivu Bid On The Rocks

Real Madrid's quest to sign Christian Chivu could hit the buffers after both sides admitted that the differences between them were almost too great to reach a compromise.

The Romanian defender wants the Spanish champions to match the wages that he was offered by Inter, but Madrid are not prepared to go that high.

Having agreed a deal with AS Roma, if personal terms cannot be sorted out then Chivu will have to wait to see if FC Barcelona are prepared to increase their bid.

Bernabéu supremo, Ramón Calderón, admitted that he may instruct Predrag Mijatovic to re-consider signing Chivu.

"There are substantial differences," he said.

"We will have to have a good look at it because it appears that things have moved way beyond what we had planned."

Chivu's agent, Víctor Becali, agreed that the talks were difficult and said that unless Madrid changed their offer then he would not be moving.

"Real Madrid's wage offer was way below Inter's proposal," Becali said. "Chivu will remain with Roma unless Real make a new offer."

"The ball is in Real Madrid's court now. If the Spaniards' offer is not satisfactory, Chivu will see out his contract at Roma."

Barça are still weighing up a new offer after lengthy negotiations with Roma, while the player has ben quoted as saying that Camp Nou is his preferred destination.

even if he does stay, the roma fans will whistle him every game
no they wont, he was all the time very loyal, every year he was linked with a club he always said that he wants to respect his contract. and roma is selling him now because he will be a free agent next year, so the club is selling him. and i can remeber while totti wanted to go to madrid, chivu always said that he wants to play in roma, from my point of view chivu was more loyal than totti.

Chivu opens Inter door

Roma defender Cristian Chivu’s future is still in the balance after his agent revealed he is considering Inter.

Despite approaches from the Beneamata and Barcelona, the Romanian stopper appeared to have chosen to move to the Bernabeu when the Giallorossi agreed a £13m deal with the Spanish champions.

However, contract negotiations with Real fell through and the ex-Ajax star is considering his options once more with Inter back in the frame.

“We spoke to Roma director of sport Daniele Prade’ and now the Giallorossi know that Cristian doesn’t intend to join Barcelona or Real Madrid,” agent Giovanni Becali stated.

Chivu is now believed to be weighing up whether he should join the Nerazzurri or stay put until his contract expires in June 2008. Then he can leave on a Bosman, allowing him to demand a higher signing on fee.

The 26-year-old’s wage request has taken Real by surprise and President Ramon Calderon is pondering his next move.

“We’re having to give the Chivu transfer serious thought because the demands are much higher than we had expected,” he admitted.

Meanwhile, Spanish newspaper Marca could be facing legal action after printing reports that Inter chief Massimo Moratti has already paid £1m to agents in the deal.

And you are wrong Suligol,if he`s loyal to club he would sign new contract and not refuse it because Roma was willing to pay him 3mln per season and he was asking 3.5
Now Inter and Real offered more but still he rejected them because all he want is just money.

I think the song "Gipsy girl dont let the drugs get you" is perfect for this saga.

Chivu being the gipsy girl and Moratti/Binter being the drugs.

Barca out of Chivu race

Transfer guru Ernesto Bronzetti believes Barcelona have definitely dropped out of the race to sign Roma defender Cristian Chivu.

The Romanian has been paired with Inter, the Blaugrana and Real Madrid over the past few weeks and seemed set to join the Merengues after the Giallorossi accepted the Spanish champions’ £13m offer.

However, the player has so far failed to agree personal terms and is considering the idea of staying in the capital until his contract expires next year, when he would be free to leave on a Bosman.

“It is definitely too late for Barcelona, they are no longer in the race,” international consultant Bronzetti told Teleradiostereo.

“Now we are waiting for Chivu’s final answer, he and his agents are studying Real Madrid’s offer,” added the market expert, who is acting as a mediator in the negotiations.

“The Spanish management is calm, they have already broken their salary cap last summer when they signed Fabio Cannavaro for £3.2m. Therefore there is no obstacle to the move when it comes to his wage.

“Barcelona called me again yesterday asking me if they could make another offer, but I answered that the clubs had already found an agreement.”

Bronzetti is confident that the move to Real Madrid could be finalised this summer, as Los Blancos are staying patient.

“They are willing to wait until the player decides. They are not in a hurry and have not set any deadline,” concluded the agent.

Chivu Will Go To Inter In The End - Bronzetti

According to Real Madrid's mediator in the negotiations for Chivu, the Romanian defender will eventually sign for Inter.

"Christian Chivu, in the end, will go to Inter": these words don't come from a nobody, but from Ernesto Bronzetti, the mediator of Real Madrid in the negotiations to buy the Romanian.

The reason, according to him, is simple: "Roma will have to earn something from the player's sale."

"15 million euros plus Obinna is an offer Roma will accept, as they are forced to give away an important player every year to be able to compete on the transfer market", Bronzetti added, "so they cannot afford to let him go for free."

"Would they reinforce a rival? Real and Barcelona would still be rivals in the Champions League, so it doesn't change much."

To "Rete Sport" microphones, the Merengues man gave another two interesting news bits regarding the market: "Cicinho will not come because Salgado has been put on the transfer list. Giuly? A possibility, Barcelona's offensive has not abated yet..."

Chivu D-day set

Romanian defender Cristian Chivu’s future will finally be decided on Tuesday in a meeting between Inter and Roma officials, according to Press reports.

Having snubbed Real Madrid and Barcelona, Chivu’s choice is whether to join the Nerazzurri or remain at the Stadio Olimpico for one more season in order to become a free agent.

The two clubs are believed to have already agreed a deal involving around £13m and a player, but there are still a number of details to be ironed out.

Roma boss Luciano Spalletti reportedly has his heart set on taking Nigerian hitman Victor Obinna, although he may be persuaded to accept Azzurrini defender Marco Andreolli instead.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Chivu has been listed in the provisional squad for Roma’s first pre-season training session.

Chivu Does Not Want Barça Or Madrid Move

Christian Chivu does not want to move to either Real Madrid or FC Barcelona and has set his heart on seeing out the final year of his contract with AS Roma.

After weeks of speculation surrounding the Romanian internatinal's future his agent has now said that a move to la Primera is out of the question and that he wants to stay in Serie A.

Guivanni Becali was rumoured to have set up meetings with both Real Madrid and Barça since the end of the season, but he has now denied that.

"Madrid does not interest us, nor Barcelona," Chivu's representative said.

"We have no intention of opening talks with these clubs as he does not want to move abroad and they both know that.

"He wants to stay in Italy.

"He wants to stay with Roma and the club know that he is not interested in a transfe

"If later on the club needs the money and they want to raise it by selling Christian then that is their responsibility."

Chivu is now likely to remain with Roma for one more season before leaving under the Bosman ruling when his contract expires next summer.

Having been told he was a vital member of the squad, Becali said that his client was not impressed with the club's offer of a new deal and that it was turned down.

"It was not an offer from a club that truly wants to retain Christian, who can earn much more in any other European team of a similar level," he continued.

"A year ago Roma made us a promise and said that after (Francesco) Totti and (Philippe) Mexes, that Christian was the most important player at the club

"They said he was one that they counted on, but the offer they have put forward does relflect those words and Christian is disappointed.

"Christian will now return for pre-season training and if Roma then decide to sell him, well, that is another matter."
