[Champions League] Chelsea 1-0 JUVENTUS (02/25/09) (31 Viewers)

right...so....people here actually think a 1-0 defeat away from home in a game that we dominated large parts of despite not being on top of our game is embarrassing? you guys need to take a reality check!
this was a decent result, they could have fallen apart after chelsea scored the early goal and got overwhelmed by the typical english high-tempo start. instead we dug in, edged our way back into the game and actually had 2-3 chances-del piero's effort first half,nedved's at the end, the volley from trez that he would score in 3-4 weeks of playing time,the run from marchisio that molinaro just played it too far ahead of him......if we fashion chances like that in turin i believe we can win this game. chelsea play too central, we can only hope that they don't figure out how to get down our flanks as i believe we handled their attacking threat well most of the time. close down the flanks and we can concentrate on drogba!
actually on SKY Sports for once they actually ahd some praise for a foreign team and said that Juve looked the most accomplished side of all the Italians,they even muttered that it could be an uncomfortable night for chelsea(seriously that NEVER happens) though they still concluded that only an english side could possibly win this

If we were on top of our game, we would have done a lot better. The performance and result was too reminiscent of the previous matches against English sides, so that's why I can't say I'm pleased about either. Chelsea has more ability than that Liverpool side four years ago to shut us down at home and worry us on the counter.
Firstly about me posting links to my blog on here it is because I do not want to duplicate and there are some people believe it or not that like what I write. Besides I post links about Juventus or things to do with this site that I would normally write on here. I write things not concerning Juve and do not post a link on here so I do not know where the spamming is coming from.

I cannot understand how you can hate someone you have never met and devote too much time in snide remarks intimating that I am arrogant and act superior when you do not even know me.
It seems that some people are talking about Chelsea like it is the same side under Mourinho or United or Barcelona. We played against an aging side on a downward slope that has not beaten any of the top 4 epl sides this season and lost to Roma.
It does not matter if they have changed managers as Hiddink cannot change things in days, no miracle can do that. We went in with the wrong attitude like all the Italian sides and paid the price.
Anyways to the game what is all this about the guys in this forum and stats? Stats are meaningless in football as they give the wrong impression most of the time. Who cares of we covered more ground as we had to cos we trailed them early.
Who cares about a bunch of meaningless passes when a poor corner by Marchionni somehow found its way to Legrottaglie, who after some hesitation passed back to Buffon in what in doubt would be counted as a successful pass?
@ Azzurri yes we controlled the 2nd half as did Aston Villa but like Villa we were just not good enough to create a dent unlike Arsenal, Liverpool and United, who took them to the cleaners showing them up to be the spent force that they are.
Chelsea are too old to dominate for 90 minutes so they sit back in the 2nd half and to be honest there is nothing special about them. Yes they have some very good players but not a team to really trouble the guys gunning for trophies.
I do agree with you that Chiellini was very bad and his passing was worse as it always has been. It is amazing to think that some fancied him as a left back when he cannot cross to save his life.
@Snoop I agree with you as regards Mellberg but disagree in the assesment that he does not need to go forward as that is the job of a full back if your team plays without width. I guess I am a fag because Marchionni is useless to me and Nedved is too old to be running around as his only attribute.
We have younger players to run around. what he is there for is to provide quality and he did not do that last night rendering his place there futile. Marchionni had 1 good shot and that was it, his passes and crosses were awful.
@Andy I said Sissoko is not good enough in Europe and he is not. He may be hot shot in serieA with the amount of sissies in that league but in Europe there is a bigger emphasis on the physicality so he cannot bully his way and then looks like the completely clueless player that he is.
His job is to win the ball and give it to someone else but no, he wants to shoot, he wants to make passes that are not in his locker. Have you seen the improvement in Lass Diarra at Madrid, now that he has been told to win the ball and keep things simple?
He is now a very good player unlike when he was trying to act like a playmaker in England. I hate it when some players do not know their limit.
Molinaro should be consigned to the proverbial football bin as he is a waste. In the 2nd leg I would like to see Marchisio, De Cegle (if fit), Trez, Iaquinta, Poulsen and Giovinco have a greater part to play.

we were not on top of our game, our passing was supremely sloppy yet we still caused them all sorts of problem, shut down the flanks,dictated play and Amauri in particular was outstanding.
chelsea may have more ABILITY but liverpool get through with grit,determination and organisation, all the things that chelsea lack right now. chelsea cannot afford to play too defensively anymore,they are not disciplined enough and do not have the lightning wingers to break quickly,they are not the same team that mourinho fielded
are you aware that ANY team ANYTIME? sure an away goal would have been excellent but it would have been a disaster if we had went gung-ho and lost another goal, which would have left us with a mountain to climb.

What scares me though is that If we manage to score not to sit back and defend giving them any chances to strike back on us.
It's not easy but once we score we need to keep ball possession more than any other time.
Btw, Chelsea are playing Wigan also on Saturday. A bit earlier than our match vs Napoli.
They play three matches before facing us while we play two.

It's not easy but once we score we need to keep ball possession more than any other time.

really i dont care about napoli lazio and merda3 btw we can play with some bench players like iq trez marchionni marchisio poulsen giovinco.... only problem will be our backline because we don't have any good bench players. maybe ariaudo and grygera over legro and mellberg... but as a defender it isn't so hard to play every 3 days. it's even better for the understanding between each other. and chillini needs some games to get back to his best. i don't see any problems with 3 games befor the next clash vs chelsea.
ranieri just has to rotate a bit and they will be all fit and fired up.. i think the chelsea game will be a real drama but in the end nedved will score the 3:1 in the 92th min

I had a little nap just before game, and could not hear alarm, so i watched replay..
In morning, i felt that result was wrong, anyway after seeing first 15 minutes, i thought we will get at least 2 more goals. It was depressing opening by us.
We were all over the place, and Drogba was as i predicted man with killer instinct.
Luckily we started playing better - the way we normally should anyway, and based on 2nd half performance i am positive that we can at least win next game.
We dont have to run for result like mad, we can play just to score 1 goal, that should not be difficult.
However, did you guys really think that we will walk in CL? He have to earn it, so let's earn next round by playing and winning well.
In regards to Camo and Chiellini critics, i would add that when player is not fully fit, he is less secure, and more prone to make mistake. Also player attack ball with more caution..I don't blame them, but i hope that at least Chiellini will be fully fit for next match, as we need our wall back.

yeah but its not like he settled for a loss, listen 1-0 is better than making a silly mistake late on and trailing 2-0. if you want to be a fuckin doom merchant go ahead but i am getting really pissed at everyone constantly having a go at us when we don't win every game.
