Thats like saying the problems are not technical because they are.

The sad truth is that they are not enough good players to win tournaments in this country.

When all fit, the problems is not that we are leaking goals cos the defence is as good as anyone's in world football.

Its further than that, if you cannot control the tempo of a game, you invariably would not win big matches and we do not in this country.

No playmaker, not good enough depth once key players are injured and you take away Rooney and Owen and we are struggling for strikers of the highest calibre.

He cannot ask chariman to buy this or that player to iron out a few wrinkles and tactically I am not sure Capello has it in him to make average players better to the extent of winning cups.

We dont have the calibre of players he worked with at Juventus, Milan, Roma and Real Madrid and it would be very difficult for him to fight with a key player or drop him cos he would not have the alternative.

There is no benching Dp and playing Zlatan cos we dont have either, or dropping Ronaldo and Cassano to play Ruud and Raul as those options would not be open to him.

If he does it though then i am promoting him to greatest manager ever, no lie
first of all... i agree with what you said above...

but besides technical abilities... it is also the mental strength... Capello gave his players at Real Madrid real belief that they can go on to win the league & while that took sometime to sink in... they believed him & fought hard to turn things round... that would not work out with just technical quality if they didn't have the mental belief...

this is the coach that helped Real Madrid win 2 times in 2 attempts... and the Real Madrid he took over from had technically good players but without that belief... they went throught some years of poor performances & low morale... but under him... they progressed in physical & mental terms...

look at Raul... a player of quality... but what was he before Capello in his 1st time there? he was a youngster with talent... Capello made him a top quality player... what was he the 2nd time? low in spirit... low in belief... but last season & now... Raul has played his best football in many many years...

not forgettin' the timely subs he brought on... many won the game for him... this shows Capello can turn things round durin' games...

lookin' back at his Milan & Roma teams... both had ordinary GKs... yet both won trophies under Capello... i think Sebastiano Rossi was never called up for Italy even once... but still he was part of the Milan side which conceded just 15 goals in the league & went unbeaten for 58 games...

and check out his Milan team that beat Barcelona in 1994... lost 2 key players in defence in Costacurta & Baresi... young Maldini had to be a makeshift CB while Tassotti played as LB... and yet Stoichkov & Romario couldn't get a sniff at goal... that was a Barcelona dream team filled with super stars like Nadal... Guardiola & Koeman... that Milan had a midfielder-converted-striker in Massaro... a young Albertini & Panucci... but they won 4-0 with Barcelona totally dominated...

how about Roma? they failed to win the Scudetto in 18 years & will probably never win it again for many years... but under Capello they did in just his 2nd year there with a clown GK...

his record is superb... winnin' the league many times in his first attempt at Milan (3 consecutive wins & 4 wins in 5 years)... Real Madrid (2 wins in 2 years) & Juve (2 wins in 2 years)... and took his 2nd attempt to win for Roma (runner-up 2 times)...

in cup competitions... he won the CL once & was runner-up twice... he won the European Super Cup once... the Supercoppa Italiana 4 times & runner-up once... in the Coppa Italia he was runner-up twice...

he proves his credentials in both league & cup tournaments... his CV makes Mourinho look amateur... don't forget Mourinho took over a Chelsea that was already strong & not a team low on morale... but yet Mourinho failed when Man Utd picked up the pace last season...

last of all... i am not sayin' he will win with England... but he will give them the best platform for success & they will never get a better chance ever...

Ince’s Capello rage

Milton Keynes Dons boss Paul Ince has hit out at the FA’s decision to offer Fabio Capello the England manager’s job. “It is a sad indictment on English football that we have to go to Europe for a manager,” the former midfielder raged on BBC’s Football Focus. “We have enough managers in England who could do just as good a job. In English football we say that you’ve got to get your qualifications, you’ve got to do this and you’ve got to get that. But when you build your CV up and they go out and get a foreign manager, sometimes you think ‘what’s the point?’”

Boo-fucking-hoo, Ince. Your managers suck. If they didn't, they wouldn't hire foreignors.
That is a traditional English trait. If Fabio brings them success, then he will praise him like he never complained ever.

one month ??!! :confused2

this I gotta see....
he's making a pretty bold statement, isnt he ?

and after watching the interview, I can pretty much guarantee that he wont be grasping the English language in only a month....a year maybe, but not a month

He got to grips with the Spanish language scarily fast, I think 3 months. It will be amazing if he does learn it in that time, but I wouldn't put it past him.

The English speak poor English themselves anyway.
:agree:

add DP to that list as well
Agreed. For someone who doesn't need to speak English, and doesn't live in England, he is a good speaker of the language.

I am not disputing his success rate at all as he has shown he is very capable of winning league competitions.

But what happened when he took over from a poor Milan side, they came 11th and he was promptly fired by Berlusconi.

Barcelona handed Real Madrid the league title and in most countries, the title would have gone to Barcelona as they had a better goal difference but lost on head to head count.

They scored more goals and conceded less than Real madrid and lets face it La Liga was very strange last season with Valencia qualifying for cl but lost 12 times out of 38 matches.

At Roma, when milan and Juventus woke up, Capello did not win the league.

But most importantly which players is he going to transform from good to excellent in the England set up?

Capello does not strike me as a manager that can work miracles with few genuine world class players.

The Milan side you are talking about that beat Barcelona in the final still boasted Marcel Desailly, Savicevic, Panucci, Maldini, Tassotti, Donadoni, Boban.

These are no mugs you know.

I am sorry preBosman Capello had by far the best squad in the world as Berlusconi was buying players not because he needed them but because he didnt want others to have them and Milan should have won more Cl than they did during that period

Doesn't matter anyway, most of our lot have all the capacity for communication of a retarded chimp. He will only have to learn the alphabet, maybe a few phrases like "hello" etc.. will be fine

Cap was at Villa Park today. I think he enjoyed the performance of Ashley Young. He could be an important player for you come 2010.

ENGLAND SQUAD - Goalkeepers: Scott Carson (Aston Villa), David James (Portsmouth), Chris Kirkland (Wigan)

Defenders: Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Wes Brown (Man Utd), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Curtis Davies (Aston Villa), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Ledley King (Tottenham), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Micah Richards (Man City), Nicky Shorey (Reading), Matthew Upson (West Ham), Jonathan Woodgate (Tottenham)

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), David Bentley (Blackburn Rovers), Michael Carrick (Man Utd), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Owen Hargreaves (Man Utd), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Ashley Young (Aston Villa)

Forwards: Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Emile Heskey (Wigan), Michael Owen (Newcastle), Wayne Rooney (Man Utd)

Fabio Capello's 1st squad has 12 defenders in it. Nicky Shorey whose side concede goals for fun and the pretty ordinary Curtis Davies are in there.

Its a friendly for crying out loud so I dont see his point with Becks. Give the guy his 100 caps already. His stupid excuse is that Becks has not played since November so what are Michael owen and Ledley King doing there? Surely Beckham has played more games that King

I can really see a front line of heskey and Crouch. I bet he is annoyed that John Carew is not English.

The press are really gonna love him

newspaper article today was interesting stating that they felt he was actually doign becks a favour here. they felt that necks being called up and given his 100th cap could mean its his last, they see becks as important to him long-term and that he will be included when it gets serious.

as for teh sixe of teh squad i am sure this is preliminary and he is trimming it by 7-8 players after teh weekend(depending on injuries)
