I think for NT Del Piero has done very well. IMO, the NT would have won in WC2002, if Trap played a 4-2-3-1 with Vieri as a lone striker and Del Piero, Totti and someone else backing him up. Then DP would have had a shot in the big time. but since trap played him as a sub, he got screwed over, and only managed to score one goal.

Honestly.. Look into Del Piero's eyes...you can read 'looser'. On the other hand, sometimes he takes speed or something and then he plays great matches. Seen his eyes in Italy-Mexico? Seen his celebration in Juventus-Madrid? Yes, people, Dp doés take drugs. No, the drugs do nót make him play better, they just make him feel better. So, all we have to do is get Dp drugs before an important match, and you'll see, he'll kick ass. And actually.. I kind of like the fact no one is going to remember dp in 10 years, the best player ever that hasn't won a thing, a nice greek tragedy

Loser? ok lets have a look at the NT games (excluding Friendlies) this year so far. NT has only played in Euro 2004 quals so lets look at each one:

Game One:
Azerbaijan 0 - 2 Italy

Tarlan Akhmedov (og 33)
Alessandro Del Piero (64)

Look Del Piero was fielded and he scored.

Game Two:
Italy 1 - 1 Serbia & Montenegro

Alessandro Del Piero (39)
Predrag Mijatovic (27)

Look Del Piero was fielded and he saved our asses.

Game Three:
Wales 2 - 1 Italy

Simon Davies (12)
Craig Bellamy (71)
Alessandro Del Piero (32)

Look Del Piero was fielded, he tied up the game, and statistically was Italy's best player. They lost, but Del Piero did his part, he scored.

Game Four:
Italy 2 - 0 Finland

Christian Vieri (6)
Christian Vieri (22)

Del Piero was recovering from injury, so he wasnt chosen. No arguments about that.

Game Five:
Finland 0 - 2 Italy

Francesco Totti (31)
Alessandro Del Piero (72)

Look Del Piero is fielded, and yet again he scores.

Look at each game that Del Piero was called for and he scored! Now if you call a player who plays four games, and scores in all of them, an unsuccessful NT player? Common guys!

Now lets talk about the current most prolific strikers of Italy.

For the Domestic League its Vieri. No Doubt.

For European Club Competition its Inzaghi. No Question.

But for NT International games its DEL PIERO. NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT. The statistics above tell you that.

Now if Trapatoni, doesnt field Del Piero, the player who has scored on every occasion he was called for this year for the NT, then that is really RETARDED.

IMO Del Piero is Italy's current most successful striker.

If Del Piero is not in injury and the game is not a Friendly and Trapatoni doesnt call for Del Piero or doesnt field him in the first team, then i KNOW for a fact Trapatoni is the most dumbfounded, blind coach in the world. Coaches dream of players like Del Piero, who score on each occasion they were called up for. And this year, Del Piero has done just that.

Loser?

Del Piero won the Scudetto 5 times with Juve, the Champions League, the Intercontinental Cup (chosen MVP), European SuperCup, Coppa Italia, Italian Super Cup, and was chosen Best Italian Player 97/98 ..

More like Champion than a Loser ..

What did players like Totti, Vieri, and Baggio achieve whith their teams?

He's just trying to wind us up so don't take notice of him ;)

DP achieved alot, more than a normal world class player can usually achieve, so he'll probably have lots of stories to tell his nephews :)

Still anyother player in his place would have won with the team juve had in these past 9 years.

Nice of you to admit that .. but it would be nicer if you give more credit to him .. I don't know if anything personal happened between you and him, but you keep bashing Del Piero whenever the opportunity arrises .. Del Piero gave his best to Juve and is continuing to do so .. the past season was a good one and he was praised by most pundits across Europe .. but still to you it wasn't good enough ..

What are you implying? He was a mere spectator?

Del Piero scored more than 100 domestic goals for Juve and is Juve's all time European top-scorer .. he scored more goals in Europe than Bettega, Schillaci, Vialli, or Rossi did ..

I did say this was a better season (at least for the first half) than the past 4 seasons. But did we really have to wait 4 long seasons before seeing him produce a decent season? I think he's over rated, not that he's not good or doesn't have technical abilities which is undeniable.

He is good, but there are better players out there.

I agree PM, if Trap had played Del Piero, Totti and Vieri together in every match we would have done very well, and though Ale only scored one goal you must remember that he was the only man to net for Italia bar Vieri, despite playing only 90 minutes in the entire competition. Oh, and DP still has a chance to prove himself for the NT - Euro 2004.

DP did very well in the 01-02 season IMO, especially coming up to the end, and he's been excellent this season. In the first half of the season he was world-class, no-one could touch him, and his level of play only dropped when he got injured, and even then, he scored valuable goals against Roma and Brescia and played one helluva match against Real Madrid. This season Ale will shine once more...

Godot .. I don't think arguing with them would work .. they will still refuse and only put in the bad side of Del Piero .. without really apreciating the good things he has done in the past years, which is not fair .. if Del Piero played 15 good matches and 5 bad ones .. they will forget about those 15 and focus on the 5 .. I still can't understand their dislike/hatered towards such a player .. it might have something to do with Baggio, but I'm still not sure .. Anyway, that would never change anything around the truth and reality of Del Piero's worth :strong::star: ;)

I did say he played half a good season cos it's true he did. In fact he was my favourite player in the first half of the season! I even cut my side burns like DP to show how much I like him!!

Last season he was good towards the end and he did score some good goals, but for 3/4 of the season he wasn't good enough. Same as the previous 2 seasons, one of which he only scored on penalties.

As I said before, DP is good and at times even world class, but too inconsistent.

haha why's that? I actually did let my hair grow long when I was 13 so I could have a ponytail like Baggio, but school wouldn't allow it :(

However I did name my dog Roby :D

I have one question for all of you:

What has Baggio achieved for the NT, that Del Piero has'nt?

Because club-wise, Del Piero has achieved more than Baggio.

The only think i can think of that Baggio won, and DP didnt was the golden ball award.
