Wait for 2 years??
It's too long...we need a world class RB right now
Zebina and Grygera can't stand in high level football for more 2 years
Hypothetically, I'd rather wait 2 years if it meant signing a quality defender rather than buying a moderately average one immediately.. but ofcourse we'll buy an average one in any case
Well that's what i'm saying. A world-class RB/CB coming, Zebina can take his hat. But if we are to sign yet another one to add to our endless list of subs, then no thanks. Not another knezevic please. Ivanovic is just NOT world-class (yet) otherwise chelsea would have held him.
Yes to a world-class defender, no to someone who might be good some time.

And to all those who are saying that 1 or 2 seasons are too long; do you really think some ivanovic will come here, and play a world-class season? Dream on; For a defender, it takes time to adapt, especially to a new league...

Buy some glasses
as i said - a world-class RB, yes. Another sub, no. Buy a brain if you don't get that.

:agree: i think having too many "ok" players is not a great idea. Ivanovic was great in the U-21 tournament two years ago but he's not bitter than mellberg or chiellini ATM. He's best position is as a CB (he's just average RB). So we bitter buy a WC right back rather than signing another just decent RB.....

plus, i think that if we want to spend 10 or 13 million for a 'prospect RB', i'd prefer paying 15 or so and get someone like de silvestri. At least, he talks italian (not that unimportant in defense) and we'd have another future NT-candidate in our rows.

The more I watch De Silvestre the more nervous i get about him, whilst he's strong, quick and aggressive he has the Molinaro syndrome of making a break and then always failing to deliver the cross or pass needed and thus the play effectively stops there and in doing so leaves his wing exposed for attack.. He's agressiveness is also a bit of a disadvantage as he tends to makes rash tackles which excite the referees.. I most certainly would not spend nearly as much as 15 million on him, for that money we could buy an already competent RB, not one that has '"potential" to be an Azzurri player' because De Silvestre has a lot of work to do

i agree wholeheartedly. I meant it in the way that "IF we buy a PROMISING player, then i'd prefer de silvestri". But i agree also on your opinion about de silvestri. He does make a lot of mistakes, but he has some strong sides too, and he runs a lot, that's undeniable. He's more of a hard-worker, and gets some crosses right also. But you're right of course, he's nowhere near Juve-starting-XI. But you need to consider that he's 21 or so only... So there's A LOT that can be done with him. I believe that from an italian NT point of view, he's the next best thing on the RB position...
But what are we talking anyway. As things are going, we probably won't buy neither ivanovic, nor de silvestri so...

Not sure how much truth there is considering its from Goal.com, but there is a quote. goal probably made that up too.

Ivanovic To Milan Imminent - Agent

Milan are on the verge of signing Branislav Ivanovic from Chelsea, according to agent Vlado Borozan.

The Rossoneri are pushing for the 24-year-old stopper as they need cover for the injured Alessandro Nesta, with the Serie A season just weeks away from kick off.

One of the player’s agents has now revealed that Ivanovic has struck a deal with Milan and he is likely to sign for them over the next couple of days.

“Ivanovic has already made an accord with Milan and a loan with the right to buy him later is very obvious,” said Borozan.

Ivanovic joined Chelsea from Lokomotiv Moscow eight months ago but he has not managed to find a regular place at Stamford Bridge.

The defender hasn’t event made his debut and a quick summer exile looks on the horizon.

Milan vice president Adriano Galliani is set to fly to London to wrap up the deal according to reports in Italy.

The Rossoneri have been woeful at the back during pre-season and a defender is top priority if they are to challenge for the Scudetto and UEFA Cup injury.

Everything depends on Chelsea.
If they're willing to let him go then he's gone to Milan. But it seems that things don't go as smooth as Gazzetta wanted us to think. According to them Kenyon was supposed to make the final decission today and now suddenly we hear from them how the decission will be made in the next 48 hours.

they would probably prefer him to go milan. selling him ivanovic is directly strengthening a rival in the CL.
provided we go to the grp stage.

that makes zero sense...selling him to either Juve or Milan is the same thing...and the reason you gave would be a reason not to sell him
