There's a segment where he admits, he is so committed to being 100% data driven, that after promoting from ligue 2 and finishing 13th. He fired his coach to the suprise of everyone, because the data says they should finished 11th.

Yes you read that right.

Alot of football clubs and coaches are data driven, use it as aid to get head start on others, but never read anyone thats as zealot about it as Comolli. His approach is so 100% data driven they don't even watch/scout players in person, and are so hands on data focused on all aspects, to the point specifically points out their data is supposed to over ride the coach's mandate.

How many coaches will be remotely close to accept that? Management telling you how to coach, use players?
People literally took moneyball too seriously, even they won nothing in the end. Mind you if you've seen the movie who was it that tried to hire the data driven Billy Beane? John Henry aka the head of Liverpool's FSG group... nowonder they had Comolli.

If it’s true that Marotta is leaving it’s no brainer…
Where? He's leaving? Impossible

Comolli also (in the interview) said he can’t accept mediocrity.
Shouldn't accept himself then

we'll have tognozzi to do the scouting

the lack of human aspect in his approach what's worrying. this is a team sport played by people, managed by people, watched by people. accountants, data analysts or engineers are rarely successful in football. sarri the banker is probably the only exception lol
Tognozzi's role has yet to be confirmed, but early indications are that he won't be head of scout...

that or sd, doesn't matter. he'd be charged with recruitment either way. and he was excellent in that for next gen during his first stint
Well I'm not overly familiar with his work as sporting director at Granada, it's one thing finding talent, it's another actually getting what you want and making it work.

And morphing into Bbilan will be complete
You wonder why Milan didn't appoint him despite being part of the red bird group?

Even they can see his approach is a recipe for disaster at a big club

then all we need is pioli :snoop:

seriously that's a legit concern. this club completely forgot what it used to stand for. that's why i wanted platini as a president. back to the roots baby

Which self respecting coach will agree to this guys bs

What is “director of football strategy” and how is it different than sporting director?
From ChatGPT:

Director of Football Strategy

  • Focus: Long-term planning and overall football philosophy.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Defining the club’s football vision and strategy for squad building.
    • Overseeing how the club approaches transfers, youth development, scouting, and coaching philosophy from a high-level perspective.
    • Aligning the football strategy with the club’s commercial and sporting objectives.
    • Often involved in bridging communication between the board, management, and technical staff to ensure strategic coherence.
  • Scope: More about setting the direction and framework rather than day-to-day operations.
Sporting Director (or Director of Football)

  • Focus: Operational management of football-related activities.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Managing player recruitment and contracts.
    • Hiring and managing coaches and technical staff.
    • Handling daily football operations and logistics.
    • Working closely with the manager/coach on squad needs and immediate team performance.
  • Scope: More hands-on and involved in the daily running of the football side.
Summary

  • Director of Football Strategy = Big-picture, long-term vision and aligning football philosophy with club goals.
  • Sporting Director = Day-to-day football operations, transfers, staff management.

In some clubs, these roles might overlap or even be held by the same person, but Juventus appears to be distinguishing between setting the football strategy (Chiellini’s role) and the broader football & commercial management (Comolli’s GM role)

So are they gonna hire another guy to go with Comolli, Tognozzi, and Chiellini? Good thing Chiellini is reporting to Comolli, I thought they’d give him more power.
