No. In theory Van Damme could be fined and he could be forced to pay compensation, but it won't happen because Onyewu didn't suffer any damage. Because of that it's not possible for Onyewu to start the entire procedure and I doubt that the public prosecutor would see much importance in this case.
I think it would be a civil case and Onyewu would definitely seek a damage, for what I don't know. But if the case is obviously filed so the procedure is able to be started even though Onyewu won't win. You can sue for anything, you can file suit for anything too. Whether or not the court sees your case as hearable is up or debate. At least that's how it goes here.

And can Onyewu prove it at all? Unless it's recorded or Van Damme is caught on a camera saying this, how exactly can Onyewu prove this?

Can't Van Damme say " No, i didn't call him a dirty monkey but Onyewu was insulting Belgium and the Belgian people and he said that he has information about a terrorist attack in Brussels"?

And then someone accuses someone else, and a football player from Lokeren accusses a football player from Mons, and so on and so on.

Oguche should just knocked him the fuck out. Things would be easier that way. Infraction followed by punishment. But you know the funny thing? You guys would still be saying 'Stupid American'.

Onyewu really should get out of that league and on to a better one. Stay away from the racist fans in Belgium and Croatia.

Only reason why Gooch is getting stick is because he's an American.

If he was Dembele or Balotelli, these people would be outraged and wouldn't laugh at them suing anybody.

Comments like this is why I haven't applied for my dual citizenship yet... you ignorant American pricks...  :D

That, and complications with tax laws... and the fact that an American passport abroad is not exactly a plus (in most cases) at this time...

Nah, you Yanks take a lot of flack, but most of you are OK... I guess...

I will laugh at every single guy (Literally everyone. Including someone i love from my family or a friend) if he sues another football player for something said to him during a football match.

Insult him back or do a Zidane and knock him down, but to sue him?
    Please!

If the league or referee won't do anything about it, then Gooch and his lawyer have a right to complain. It's not about money, not about pity, but rather about putting an end to that crap.

But I guess that's another thing that will never happen in the fantastic country of Belgium.

Calling someone a racist might work in USA if you want to beat a guy in an argument, but here it doesn't.

Ok, i might not really understand racism and what it means in America. But i have a child and i guess that calling a black guy a monkey during a football match has a similar value with someone saying to me "I will rape your child and murder him".

You know, i won't sue that guy.

Yeah, I kind of got that, bro. Don't forget beaver tails, igloos, mounties, hockey, basketball, Moose, and Shania Twain... to round out some good ole cliches. :)

Maybe you're right. Maybe nobody should do anything about it.

But what if Milan fans were making visible monkey chants that were directed towards Sissoko and the league didn't do anything about it? Would you want somebody to press charges against them, or would you laugh at Juventus or Sissoko for bringing the issue up in court?

That wouldn't piss an American off. I can go out to a bar or where ever with a black man and call him a cocksucker, motherfucker, dick cheese, fuckface, needledick, and glasses and he wouldn't get mad. But I could call him any one of nigger, monkey, spook, coon, or boy and expect to get punched in the face. It's just one of those things you'll never understand.

And what is visible in this case with Onyewu?

If the Milan fans are caught on cameras and there are millions of witnesses, i'd expect Juventus to press charges if the league does shit about this.

So you're saying that Onyewu made it up? And how do you know that his teammates didn't hear it as well?

Of course people won't believe him, though. He's a big dumb black American player.

I'm pretty sure that he didn't make it up, but from what i understood from the article it's his word against Van Damme's word. Van Damme has denied the allegations. So what should the Belgian FA do?

Investigate, but they apparently won't be doing that.
