Conte will call the preliminary squad tomorrow (Monday).

Anyone know how big the squad will be?

Ventura is a good choice if true
These old school, conservative coaches seem to not do well at the international level. Even Trap was poor.

Mazzarri would've been better (assuming he was interested before signing with Watford). He's actually a good coach who was in charge of a poor Inter team (horrible idea to coach Milan or Inter now). And now is having to start all over again.

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Federico Marchetti (Lazio), Salvatore Sirigu (Paris Saint-Germain)

Defenders: Davide Astori (Fiorentina), Andrea Barzagli (Juventus), Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Angelo Ogbonna (West Ham), Daniele Rugani (Juventus), Matteo Darmian (Manchester United), Mattia De Sciglio (Milan), Davide Zappacosta (Torino)

Midfielders: Marco Benassi (Torino), Giacomo Bonaventura (Milan), Daniele De Rossi (Roma), Alessandro Florenzi (Roma), Emanuele Giaccherini (Bologna), Jorginho (Napoli), Riccardo Montolivo (Milan), Thiago Motta (Paris Saint-Germain), Marco Parolo (Lazio), Stefano Sturaro (Juventus), Antonio Candreva (Lazio)

Forwards: Eder (Inter), Ciro Immobile (Torino), Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli), Graziano Pellè (Southampton), Simone Zaza (Juventus), Federico Bernardeschi (Fiorentina), Stephan El Shaarawy (Roma)

Wow, Eder to end up top scorer at Euro 2016 then.

Sturaro sneaking in there too :D Gotta love Conte.

Why is Berardi not there?
Doesn't fit the profile of player Conte would select, I imagine. Not that Conte's selection process has made much sense over the last couple of years. It took him long enough to accept Insigne into the squad. Verratti hasn't been capped nearly enough either.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't Conte NOT call Giovinco & Pirlo up until the actual tournament due to their MLS restrictions?
He definitely can. I think a Belgian MLS player has been called up in the last couple of days.

7 players

Ogbonna, Zappacosta, Benassi, Immobile, Bonaventura, Jorginho and Insigne to be dropped by Conte.
I rather bring Ogbonna than Astori, he been great with West Ham this season and he gets along with the rest of Juventus back line. A bit risky to let Zappacosta go considering the only fullbacks mentioned in that defender list is Darmian and De Sciglio, unless Florenzi and Giacherrini will be played that position as well.

No Verratti or Berardi?
Verratti is injured. Obviously he would have been included if he wasn't.

You mean Ciman and he was placed on the reserve list (though he will join the training camp because of several injured defenders).

Conte.

Italy struggles with good players and he decides not to call up Berardi, Donnarumma and Romagnoli (the only one understandable decision, looking at the depth of his position). I'd even give Sansone and Giovinco a try.
This guy. :sergio:
