I don't

First time since 2006 I'm exited about Italy
i never understood you Fresh. Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Zaza... all potential starters and all players you like/love. yet you cheer against them with all your heart

No Pirlo :frown: I was hoping to see him one last time in a top competition
me too

My guess is he plays Jorginho as registra or he plays with 3 workman like mids and uses Candreva as one of them and plays 2 centre forwards up front. I don't know what he is thinking but I guess he might do something like this:

-----------------------------Buffon----------------------------

---------------Barzagli----Bonucci----Chiellini---------------

Florenzi-----------Jorginho---------De Rossi----------Darmian

--------Candreva---------Pelle/Zaza---------El Shaarawy--------

Basically - expect a lot of long balls and hope for the best and get everyone to chase down everything and "spit blood" That is so Conte.
fixed that formation for you. thats how i think he will play. maybe Motta or Parolo instead of Jorginho

Italy CT Antonio Conte says he spoke to Andrea Pirlo before opting not to call him for Euro 2016.

The New York City midfielder and his MLS colleague Sebastian Giovinco have both been left out of the squad for this summer’s tournament, almost certainly spelling the end of Pirlo’s international career.

“I heard from Andrea, I needed to hear from him and we sent people to the US,” Conte explained in a Press conference at Coverciano today.

“However, we’ve made other choices and you have to accept them and deal with the consequences. Nothing was left to chance.

“We evaluated him and Giovinco, it’s normal that if you choose to go and play there then you can pay the consequences in footballing terms.

“We evaluated them technically, we didn’t leave anything to chance. Anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong, we went everywhere to have clear and precise ideas.

“I picked the 30 who I think will give me the most guarantees.”

The Azzurri will face Scotland and Finland in warm-up friendlies, and Conte confirmed the choices were made to prepare for the opponents Italy will face at Euro 2016.

“We opted for Scotland because they’re very similar to Ireland, while Finland are more like Sweden.

“We chose them to see what kind of games await us.”

Fully agreed with him there.

Thats a point that I atleast understand, MLS doesnt hold the professional or competetive standards Italians are used to, and even if the players are good, you kinda make the choice of basically retiring in competetive terms by going there. The same should be true for any player who goes to China and the Gulf leagues.

so
giovinco rotting his ass on juve's bench (and was called up regularly) > immobile,
but
giovinco scoring like 98734589 goals in mls < immobile

pirlo playing for juve = rock stable starter
pirlo playing in mls = not even worthy a call-up, even when verratti and marchisio are unavailable, and conte rather plays motta, de rossi or fucking montolivo in regista

It honestly doesn't make sense to me

Even Giovinco at Juventus, when he did nothing, did more than Immobile &/or Eder has in basically their careers
Immobile was Serie A top scorer 2 seasons ago.

Giovinco and Pirlo got what they deserved for joining a trash league. Especially the former. Although I don't think Seba will care much, otherwise he'd have tried to hold out for an opportunity to play against players that can compete with him.

It's obvious Conte regards it this way and there's something to be said for it. But I still believed he'd pick Giovinco given the utter lack of attacking talent and the fact that Giovinco is.. well.. not as bad as people on here make him out to be.

Pirlo would likely been dropped even if he was still in Italy, his level dropped and relatives I have in US says he isnt even impressing in MLS.

Giovinco actively chose the big paycheck over the limelight of competetive footie, I would still call him and wanted him there because he is good (literally one of my top few fav players still), but I understand Conte or the FIGC drawing the line somewhere. You basically get yourself out of contention leaving the main stage when you join lower start up level league so its not much to dispute on footballing terms in itself.

He has only ever been used as an impact sub for Italy and sparingly so. I'd understand it if he chose all that money over 5 minutes in a blue jersey.

yeah, that's my point, too. i haven't seen pirlo playing since he left juve, but i watched a couple of toronto matches, and gio is still twice the player eder or immobile ever was. also, he's a natural seconda punta, unlike none of the included players. and that's why i don't get conte's or the figc's point about the mls. it's a joke of a league compared to serie a, sure, but it won't make giovinco a worse player - in fact, giovinco has regained some of his confidence and might be useful for the italian national team, which desperately needs some in-form attacking player, especially someone who could play ss, am or a winger.

also, giovinco is surely not as exhausted as insigne, whose level dropped quite a bit during the last months, and failed to score or assist in 9 of the last 10 serie a rounds. or there's eder who only scored 1 single goal since he left samp for merda. immobile also surely lacks fitness, since he's coming back from an injury.

anyway, it's conte's responsibility, and as a fan of italy, i can only hope he knows what he's doing.

Credit to him. The last time he hit top form at club level, there must have been about 4 more deserving players ahead of him? I don't think he's been underutilised by any Italian coach at the national level. And he's probably missed his best opportunity this summer to be honest.
