One thing is kind of funny: it reminds me of Khedira signing, when me and others thought it was a mediocre/ordinary player.

The best quality from this management is identifying quality and potential, that's out of question. Vidal, Pogba, Morata, Coman, even Dybala - let's not forget that 32 + 8 for a kid who only played for Palermo and struggled in the 2nd part of last season was also a bet at that time.

All these are high potential guys who were signed and have become world class (apart from Coman, yet, but the potential to be very good is there and he wasnt bought for almost 30M from nowhere).

Apparently Witsel is long time target by Paratici/Marotta. They clearly like a lot what the guy brings to the table.

So despite the side passing we all see when we get to see him playing, in very limited occasions, this guy might actually be good.

And I have no doubt they'll get him in january.

witsel passed the medical, had a dinner with marotta, lucescu told allegri "he's yours", and finally clamoroso: apparently zenit can't read the watch properly and screwed up with the time zones, so we missed out on the final deadline.

wtf

Does anybody remember how much Beppe offered for Llorente with 6 months on his contract left?
Do you mean how much he offered Athletic? Nothing if I recall correctly. We just signed a pre-contract agreement with him in January (which is allowed) and didn't bother trying to negotiate a fee with them as they wouldn't budge out of principle.

Doesn't the Russian league finish in January? there for it would make sense for them to accept the smaller cash offer than to keep him and lose him for free
it finishes in may, takes a break from December 1st till March 2nd. I guess a lot will depend on how Zenit will be doing in the league and EL when the break comes, if they have no reason to keep Witsel for the last 3 months of the season, they will try to cash in at least a few millions
