that is certainly true ... but I'd disagree with Conte on that one - Barca's most effective defense is keeping the ball away from the opposition, Juve simply doesn't have the players to provide this type of possession football. Also, whenever they lose the ball, Barca players swarm the other team's players and create a "majority" in the area of the field where the ball is, forcing the opponent to hurry and make a mistake, which usually results in Barca regaining the ball.
All in all, just because a team is not full of Gattusos, Essiens, Melos, etc that doesn't mean they lack players capable of defending.

Actually that's what Conte meant, Barca is doing well because they play great possession thus it doesn't matter if the individual players are not good at defending as long as they make the system to work to their strength. So Conte is right.
I noticed how many have been bashing Ziegler's signing, i admit me too prefer to have Cissokho compared to him, but some of you are making him look extremely bad when he is not. Ziegler is part of a solid Switz defense that was the only nation to stop Spain from scoring in WC 2010. He was also part of the Samp defense whom had the 3rd best defense in 2009/2010 season. And that defense conceded 15 goals less than us that season. Even during Capello days we didn't have an all star defense, we still had Zebina as our starter back those days. Defending is part of a team, and even with Ziegler, if the defensive system is working as a unit, we can have a rock solid defense. Rather than addressing the LB situation any more futher, its the CB that we need to fix. We do not have a real defensive organizer at the back . Someone who commands the defense line, that's what we need to have good defense. Chiellini is no defensive organizer and Bonucci have alot of convincing to do. A top notch leader and organizer in defense is what we need.

But does Juve have the players needed to play possession football at that level - the "swarming" part works if you don't have to do it all game long as it is very taxing on the players, physically i.e. if you can keep the ball for long periods of time, after winning it back, so that you don't have to spend energy chasing after it.
Dude, i didn't say he was great defensively either did i? What im saying is he isn't as bad as some make here, like the end of the world. He can do the job. Defending is a team effort , you need the whole unit to work together when it comes to defending and he was part of the unit. If our team does well and gets a clean sheet that goes down to the whole defensive line and not a single defender alone.
Of course defence works as a unit, but that argument also fits any player. We have to look at a player alone, because otherwise we're looking at coach skills, not player's. Team blend is important, but that's just another quality of the players and mostly exposed in a well worked team.

Before the market started, the more important positions to fix were the RB, LW and LB. And I'm reading about a Cissokho's move to Liverpool for 9M, so we wouldn't need 25M. Probably more than 9M, but surely not 25M. And the leap in quality from Ziegler to Cissokho would be huge.

So finally you got it that there's no need for panic, even if we got Cissokho without a defense which is lacking a organizing leader and a major defensive unit there's its going to be the same story as last season. We already got Ziegler, who can do the job, like i said we still had Zebina back those days starting and we still did a great defensive job. I did mention in my earlier post that i too prefer Cissokho to Ziegler, but still Ziegler is now our player. Rather than bashing him like he is some 3rd Division material, i think we show some positiveness that he can do the job. If we are going to be a defender next a CB, and a good one should be on Marotta's list.
