Yeah, we can get him in January, try him out, and if he's good enough then obviously we'll keep him for the 2004/05 season, and if not, then he can be loaned out.

Well, it looks like the acquisition of Rodriguez is nearly complete. However, the reason that Juve wants him in January is because they want to loan him out to a Small Serie A team for the rest of the year, that way he can get his feet wet in Serie A and be ready for Juve next year.

Now, before we all jump off a bridge, there is some other news. Apparently, Juve is STILL in the Running for Van Buyten, and they want him to come over in January.

It looks like it might be between Juve and Man U.

HOWEVER, there is a rumor going around that both Chelsea and Man U are after Ayala from Valencia, and whoever doesn't get him, will go after iether Samuel or Chivu from Roma.

Hope that tides you guys over for a little while.:)

Brilliant. Loaning Rodriguez sounds like a good idea to me since we don't know how he'll cope with life in a league such as Serie A and in a team such as Juventus.

The news about us chasing Van Buyten is also very promising, but unfortunately he, like most of the other top defenders in Europe, is cup-tied.

PS. I can't see Roma selling Samuel or Chivu to Chelsea or Man U unless they find themselves in a dire financial situation.

Right... So because i disagree with you, I haven seen him play....

    Whatever you reckon

You dont know me and you dont what i have and have not seen so dont come here belittleling my opinion with your uneducated comments... my OPINION is that he isnt good enough to play for juve.... You dont like that?.. bad fvcking luck
Sorry if I sounded rude, man. Anyway, I was just wondering... Where did you see Gonzalo play? What things didn't you like about his game?

Welcome magosantana81 and thanks for the wonderful information you've shared with us on your league!

Last questions on Rodriguez : what is your opinion of him as compared to Walter Samuel? The latter's a good import with Roma and together with Aimar, are 2 of the few success stories of the young Argentines in Europe. Also, how's Gonzalo like in character, mental characteristics etc?

    Thanks again!
    No problem!

Well, Walter Samuel is already a proved world class defender. It would be unfair to compare both guys at this point. I would have liked Gonzalo to stay a couple of seasons more in Argentina so that he could mature his game more, just like Samuel did when he was in Boca. Remember he didn't go to Italy until he was 22. But if you ask me exclusively about skills, I tell you that Gonzalo has nothing to envy of Samuel. Maybe he still has to learn when to tackle and when not if you know what I mean.. Sometimes he could just stay up and still get the ball. That is something his U-20 coach was saying the other time. The rest is pretty even. Moreover, I would dare to say that our National Team coach plans in the long term would be to have the following defense:

    Gonzalo Rodríguez
    Ayala
    Samuel

Anyway, like I was saying, everyone has agreed that Gonzalo has gown up dramatically in the last tow years. Just think that in early 2002 he was still practicing with the Sixth Youth Division and in mid 2002 he jumped from that Division directly to the First Team, without even going to what you call the Primavera team. That's quite a lot.

Oh, about Gonzalo's character, he can be a bit shy outside the field. I mean, he's still very young and you can notice that he doesn't "enjoy" much talking with journalists, specially when the camera is on and live. Well, guys like Samuel and Aimar used to be awfully shy when they were here. Learning to speak in public is something that you eventually develop, I guess. Anyway, that is the least important thing for a footballer. Inside the field he kind of transforms in a good sense. He likes to shout to his teammates to order the defense. He is a good leader. I just hope he doesn't feel nervous for being among all those stars like Thuram, Del Piero or Nedved and that he will shout to them too if it's necessary :D

magosantana, are you SURE you're not gonzalo rodriguez's agent?

well I havent seen him play, but here in Malaysia they have weekly highlights of Argentinian league so I'll try to check him out... If Juve does get him will he be playing for our first team?
Hmmm. Maybe I am... Who knows... :D

Anyway... Yes, do check him out. Are you going to get the U-23 South American Pre-Olympics on TV there? Gonzalo might play there if this transfer isn't worked out yet.

Thanks a lot for that comprehensive bit! How do you rate Romagnoli as compared to the many other #10's in Argentina? Take River's Daniel Montenegro and Damian Manso (who was on loan at Bastia) for instance.
No problem, Alex. By the way, I want to take the opportunity to congratulate you on this super website! It's awfully complete and this is one of the most dinamic forums I've ever been to. Should you ever need anything from me to collaborate with this amazing site, just ask. Your wish is my command.

Well, if you ask me Leandro Romagnoli is probably the last player that is still playing in our league of a great generation of playermakers that were born in Argentina in the last decades.

Montenegro and Manso are two years older and they have somehow got stuck in the way.

In case you didn't know, the former has also been abroad. Two years ago he went to Zaragoza but he couldn't adapt well so he came back to Argentina to play in Independiente. Now he's in River Plate and people are beginning to lose their patience with him. His level doesn't compare at all with his first years in Huracán (San Lorenz's arch rival, by the way) when he was a very promising player. Anyway, if we want to speak appropriately, Daniel Montenegro is not a real playmaker. Though he often wears the #10 jersey, he's more of a mid-forward, in the likes of Del Piero who can be a playmaker if his team needs him but who is more comfortable playing closer to the box.

As for Damián.. As you mentioned, he was in Bastia where he didn't have a good experience. Again, he couldn't adapt (mind you, when we sometimes say this it isn't always the player's fault... sometimes they just don't get enough chances from their coach, etc... there are a lot of factors to take into account). The truth is that Manso went back to his birth team (Newell's) where his level diminished dramatically. The club supporters were mad about him and they said he was just down for having to come back to Argentina and that he wasn't playing with all his might. The club decided to transfer him to Independiente where his level was even worse this last season!

Anyway, when this guy is motivated, he can be really good. He's superfast, and can dribble at will. I like him more than Montenegro. This guy is a playmaker, unlike the former.

Now, if I have to compare Manso with Romagnoli, I say Romagnoli has better dribbling skills and is more consistent than Manso. But Damián has better shooting skills. He has scored many goals from free kicks.

And Mago Santana.. yeah i have to agre with u Abou the Tevez-meadia campaign thing!. They tend to overpraise all the young prospects who resemble maradona in some way. Hey but that really didnt overshadows the good player Tevez is
Yeah, of course noone can seriously deny Tévez is a good player. Rumour has it that Bayern Münich offered 40 million dollars in the last hours but Boca turned them down

You know, when I was complaining about the hype around Tévez, I was curiously thinking about the guys in "La Última Palabra". That guy Fernando Niembro is the one who one day out of the blue started comparing him with Maradona...

And that hype I'm talking about "allowed" some stupid journalists to think that Tévez could be chosen Argentine Sportman of the Year over Emanuel Ginobili!!! Give me a f***ing break!

++ [ originally posted by Alucard Belmont] ++[/B] well, if Juventus is interested in him, and he do come to Juve this January, then he is something.
EXACTLY. Do you guys honestly think that Juventus will buy a complete unknown player to them?

According to my information, Lippi has been following Gonzalo's steps closely since the U-20 South American Tournament last January that Argentina won having Gonzalo as one of the stars of the team. And it was in this recent Youth World Championship that they confirmed their interest.
So it's been a whole year!

I saw Manso in one game he played for Bastia and although you could see he was skilled, he didn't really influence the game much. I only know the players through CM anyway.. :D

Btw do you mind explaining the different rivalries? It's confusing cause almost all of the clubs are from the same city.. :D

    Rodriguez close to Juve
    Wednesday 24 December, 2003

Juventus are on the verge of completing a swoop for young Argentine defender Gonzalo Rodriguez.

The 19-year-old is expected to move to the Turin giants even if the date of his arrival is yet to be agreed.

Reports had initially suggested that the stopper would arrive next summer but stories in South America claim a January switch may occur.

Argentine newspaper ‘Clarin’ suggests that a New Year move is on the cards and Rodriguez is keen on the transfer.

"They are a club who are always in contention for major honours," said the player. "I would relish joining them even if it will be tough to get a first team shirt."

Reports in Italy on Wednesday say that Juve would instantly loan the player for the rest of the season if he does arrive next month.

That is because the club are keen to see him in top-level action as quickly as possible. Bologna, Empoli and Lecce are all being linked.

Juventus are looking to rejuvenate their defence given the fact that Lilian Thuram, Paolo Montero and Ciro Ferrara are all the wrong side of 30.

    :)

So, the word on the streets is that when we get Gonzalo we'll loan him out immediately... obviously loaning him is good for his future and therefore good for us, but we need a defender who can help us right NOW. Apparently Van Buyten is being linked... hopefully Moggi will get him or Mexes... we'll have to wait and see...

    NEWS ALERT

In a recent interview, Gonzalo Rodriguez said to the press that he'd love to play for Juventus even if it would be difficult to get a starting spot on their roster.

Other news say that he could be bought in January and loaned to Bologna, Empoli or Lecce. I'd loan him to Siena b/c they are playing well.

As long as Gonzalo goes to a club where he'll get first team football every week, I'm happy. :)

its good that we're loaning him out to give him a taste of italian football but wouldn't it be better to just try him out first for our squad, I really think we need a new defender to rejuvenate our defense for the remaining season

here's the deal:we keep him for the remainder of the season, see how he works out, then decide in the summer whether to loan him out or not.
