If it was these 2 years surrounded by solid runs before/after I'd grant the EuroMax CL Expert credentials. But once you look outside these 3 years you say a parade of humiliations and shameful exits.


You can call it a very short peak in an otherwise mediocre career, but definitely this guy doesn't go down as a CL expert in anyway. Its the equivalent of saying Juve are experts in the CL. We have the same record he does.

Comparing to Ancelotti now

Ofcourse no manager has a faultless record but some are genuinely very good at Champions League competitions and some that have a surprise season or two but are generally nothing special. Ancellotti is in the former camp. Allegri is in the latter camp. The nothing special camp.

Monaco (cant recall who was the coach) went deep with much less when we knocked them out on our way to the final. Same for the Ajax that spanked us or Villareal. Spurs reached a Champions League final under Poch.

None of these coaches are considered CL experts by their deluded fanbases and these coaches probably never had horrific campaigns like our current and last. More success than Conte is not a high bar, all these coaches surpassed it in their surprise seasons. Conte does not have a good record in Europe
