This is a red herring, Hoori, because you present an "assume a spherical chicken" problem.

You play your Coppa squad not because that's your best squad to win. You play it because you're resting some of your regular starters for the Serie A championship.

The Serie A championship was over two weeks prior. Conte had a full two weeks to properly rest players for the next competitive match they had on the calendar.

If Conte enters the Coppa final with his Coppa squad, with the Scudetto in the bag, he's fielding a substandard team -- one that Napoli surely did not field given their CL squad and all.

Extending statistics for previous Coppa matches is irrelevant, because Serie A was already effectively over two weeks before the match.
Conte played the B squad because Juve's objective was never winning that cup. Coppa became the B squad's cup. If Juve hadn't won the Scudetto earlier, first team players might have performed better because Coppa would have meant to them in that case. As I said, Juve's worst players against Napoli happened to be three of their best first team players. When there's not much between the two teams squad wise, motives play the biggest role. Napoli wanted this cup, Juve? Not as much.

You make a reasonable point that the first-team players may not have been as hungry for the Cup as B squad players may have been. That's an important coach's call. And you're absolutely right that we didn't really want this cup as much.

I still think Conte could have done more to assemble the right squad with the right winning mentality for the Coppa Final. He could not.

Funny, when I read 'clamoroso' in a calcio rumours context my brain automatically translates it to 'bullshit'.
I automatically translate it to Juve's defense circa '10-'11. :sergio:

Your brain is spot on following the trends.

Perhaps, perhaps not. Chiellini's absence was a big blow, Conte had to play Caceres on the left which clearly limited his abilities. To add more defending strengths to the left in order to block Maggio, Conte had to play Esti instead of Giac. Barzagli, Licht, Bonucci, Vidal, Pirlo and Marchisio all started the game. Those Conte picked for attack had most to play for but they never received enough service. The right side wasn't functioning well and Marchisio and Vidal were both below par. I'd personally start Alex and Quag in attack because they had previously seemed to complement their moves very well.

All in all, I think Conte's selection of starting eleven was spot on but Juve, as a team, were nowhere near the team who had won the Scudetto and reached the Coppa final. Still, what brought Napoli the victory, apart from their greater determination, was Barza and Bonucci falling asleep for a few seconds escorting the ball and an unnecessary erroneous move by Storari.

So I take it you must believe that a motivated Storari would have been more effective than a satisfied Buffon?
