"Barcelona play with seven players who can't defend, but they still win."
Wrong, just like those who think defending is tracking back towards your own penalty area to stop the opposition. They're incredibly fit players and press the shit out of the man with the ball, restrict his options to pass to and recover possession. That's how they defend.

That depends, do you describe defending in terms of stopping play within a certain area or stopping your opponent playing in general. If we go with the later then everything is defending, running towards the corner flag is defending because it denies the opposition the opportunity to create an attack.

I actual think you may be supporting what Conte has said. By you logic, Barca don't traditionally 'defend' then, the 'tracking back' is the traditional interpretation of defence, maybe Cone meant what you said, that if we are fit, keep the ball and do everything to win it when we lose it whilst scoring goals we don't need a defensive structure. I agree with Conte, insofar as I believe that there are three parts to the game, Attack,Defend and Control. Barca control but they aren't the best defensively, they don't need to be, because if you have control you don't need to defend.

Barca's defence and offense are two sides of the same coin. They are fit, because of their passing game. They have possession for most of the game, so they're not using up much energy chasing the ball. Their opposition, on the other hand, are spending most of their time chasing the ball, using up energy levels. This creates a situation that when Barca lose the ball, they have the energy needed to press instantenously, whereas the opposition, having had to chase the ball for long stretches, are physically more spent. Add on their opposition the pressure of having to do something constructive with the ball because they don't get the ball often, and you have a recipe that guarantees Barca to win possession very quickly.

Saying that defending is simply tracking back it too simplistic to me, doesn't make sense when you can feasibly stop the other team's play in their half with organised work rate.

Taking last season as an example, out of our forwards, I think only Quagliarella did anything consistent enough to resemble work rate in pressing the opponents, and it produced a goal against Catania and Milan from memory.

You have to clearly demarcate the aspects of the game other wise, like I said, running to the corner flag could be considered defending.

So all he said is that we have no goals and we just want to play football and hopefully win smth.
I hope we focus on the cup this time and claim the silver star, the last time we won the cup, Conte was on the field leading the team!
