injuries was part of the problem, but how could you expect a narrow 4-3-1-2 can do anything against one of the best midfielders in the history of the game who played with 6 midfielders (false 9)? it was insane to do that in a major cup competition when you already had a better solution to that.

as coach you can only believe what the players tell you. if a very important defender tells you he is ready to play and then limps off after 20 minutes it totally destroys your gameplan. would prandelli have known that chiellini is not available he probably would have played a totally different formation to compensate for that, but after the starting whistle you can not adjust like that.
