Exploiting Asians for profit? I'm sure other organisations were doing that long before Perugia.
I was merely speaking in the context of Italian football clubs. I think they were one of the 1st Italian clubs to sign player from Asia. I think Genoa were 1st few years back.

Thing is too even though some like swag will still be loyal to the club no matter what, casual fans or curious newbies, neutrals etc who were treated as such might think twice. Especially upon seeing how other clubs treated their fans during this tour.

There was a similar issue with Messi's charity matches in the US this summer - the one in LA got canceled the night before it was due to take place because of some disagreement with the promoter, with some fans planning entire vacations around it. Then in Chicago few fans paid $1000 for VIP tickets to meet Messi & then were told he wasn't going to show (apparently the promoter never told him & his people that he was supposed to do the event). Nonetheless there were some very disappointed fans & some who said they have zero respect for Messi after this. Even if it might not have personally been his fault, it still hurt his image for some in the US.

I heard about it. I thought he was the one to blame but I haven't heard the entire story till now. You see bad things can spread around very fast although I have no interest in Messi or Barcelona.

I remember when Peruggia signed Nakata in '98. Every match you could see numerous reporters from Asia following him and the team as well. Later on they brought Ahn. Ever since than I've been thinking about it. They were ahead of their time back than and a pretty decent team.
oh yeah Ahn, then they sacked the player for betraying the club and Italy for scoring the winning goal against them at the world cup

Oh man... I forgot about the Messi fiasco in Chicago. I heard that was a complete implosion.

And I have to be honest, this whole experience with Juve's most recent tour has raised the question, "Why am I paying every year for a Juve Premium International Membership if they're going to take my money and tell me to eat sh*t when they come to my town?" That literally costs the club money.

It's a little like having a long-distance girlfriend who flies out your way on a trip, only for her to spend time with her sister and other girlfriends while breaking most of her commitments to you to get together with her. You walk away from that situation thinking, "Should I cut back on how much I'm investing myself in the relationship here, given I'm the only one who's really making much of an effort?"

So long as it doesn't involve you having sex with other clubs :boh:

Yeah, I read about a boy who idolized Messi who went to Chicago only to get his heart broken. Felt really bad for him. Also related to Barca, when Rosell took over, he closed club membership to people who can't get over to Barcelona at least once a year to renew. Which is basically shutting out foreign support unless they are well off enough financially to make regular trips. So that's left me with a bit of a bad feeling these past couple years & why I sympathize with you guys so much about this.

I just can't figure out why clubs try to market themselves abroad & then shoot themselves in the foot by being counterproductive.
