Osman you say Marchisio needs to prove himself! prove what mate?
There is a difference between improving your game(which there's always a room for every player to do so) than proving yourself to be included in starting XI.

Marchisio is a team player that most of his work go unnoticed.
He's quick at making smart decisions, He's consistent, good enough for his role at passing, shooting, tackling,
and he covers alot of areas as if we had two players playing his role. What more can you ask really?!

Now to me, seems like you are favouring Sissoko and underrating others , especially Marchisio in this case.
Don't get me wrong I like Momo alot.. I would put him ahead of Melo and Poulsen, I'll give you that.
But saying that he's more effective than Marchisio when we were shown otherwise time and time again this sesaon and Marchisio needs to prove himself to be a starter is just nonsense! I'm sorry..

Allowances have to be made for Marchisio having spent most of the season playing out of position.

I hope Del Neri will have the sense to keep him in the middle, rather than use him on the wing, which marginalised him and made it that much harder for him to make a telling impact on a game.

What does Del Neri need from the central midfield in his 4-4-2?

Obviously one midfielder who can defend well, breakdown opposition attacks but also offer passing skills as you dont want a player there who cant pass and keep it flowing well.

The other midfielder needs to be an all rounder type...good passing skills, offers good offensive skills..pure box to box type player.

Currently, i think we have 2 midfielders who are capable of playing the box to box type midfielder, those being Marchisio and Candreva. Both haven't proven they are super stars, but i believe both have the goods to make it.

The more defensive role is the main concern. Whilst sissoko rocks at breaking legs and stopping teams from attacking in midfield, he lacks decent passking skills, an area which will not be welcomed in that type of midfield. Melo has a bit of everything, but isnt great at anything...he doesnt breakdown the attacks like sissoko, but has the ability to pass and a do a bit more when moving forward. Last but not least, Poulsen probably suits that role thes best out of all 3. In fact, when he played towards the end of the season with Marchisio, we actually looked a lot better in midfield.

Del Neri will obvisouly try a lot of different things pre-season, but i think Sissoko and Melo could both be shown the door if they dont suit Del Neri's midfield. I'm not saying Palombo is the solution, but we need a player to partner Marchisio or Candreva who will suit the overall tactics.

Are we buying Candreva in the first place?

You fail to see the difference of a 4-4-2 and 4-3-1-2 CUG, besides the latter being in a completely dysfunctional form, its also one that didnt suit Momo and required more from hm as it was based around possession footie and him being more offensive. But 4-4-2 DM he is totally natural for, and he was a beast in under Ranieri, litterally fell apart without him when he got injured late years season (it was clear he was masking the teams and Ranieri's fragile state), wasnt no coincidence we started leaking like HELL then. Plus even if passing isnt his forte, he kept it simple and basic then, and didnt make miss passes nearly to the degree he did this season under Zaccheroni (I cant say Ciro as much, because he was injured all the time).

Basically as one of the 2 CMs/DMs Momo > Melo, Poulsen, and yes frigging Candreva too.
