Not bringing him back at this point when we're in a need of a back up that would get decent amount of playing time doesn't really classifies as something that we're counting on in the future. Sadly.

I think Ogbonna is decent. But now after seeing these numbers I don't like the deal. We could've invested money elsewhere. Sorensen is good enough to take role of 4th CB.
I think I see 27 apps. I think we could get him in the 20s. :D
For both of you.

The first centre back substitute at Juve was Cáceres, and he had 12 Serie A starts and 6 substitute appearances.

Sørensen had 20 starts for Bologna and 5 substitute games in Serie A.

The way Juve are doing things is the correct way with a baby defender.

We're better off spending good chunk of cash with a young, quality defender like Ogbonna, then resigning Sorensen back for peanuts.

Imagine one of our defenders gets injured. We're fucked. Our strength from our teams starts from the back, our wall. Caceres is decent/good as a CB. But nothing more. You can tell our backline is a bit more shaky with him there. Anyways, Caceres can really only fill Barzagli's spot. Whereas Ogbonna could fill in any of the 3. Ogbonna is healthy competition for our three CBs as well, Caceres could never take those spots away from them. As for Sorensen, the kid doesn't have what it takes to play at Juventus. Just like Immobile and others, he had more hype than promise. He doesn't have what it takes, especially in the CL.

Depth players:

CB: Ogbonna/Caceres
RWB: Caceres/Padoin
LWB: Peluso/Giaccherini
CM: Giaccherini/Pogba
ST: Giovinco/Vucinic/Matri/Quag

A great bunch of players coming off the bench.

Also, at this point in time Jovetic would be a luxury. We already have Tevez with Giovinco or Vucinic coming off the bench for him in the case of any injury/exhaustion.
I like this

Why didnt they invest heavily in a CB last season then?

Because Lucio was supposed to be the backup. That didn't work. Once they realized that they need a true quality defender back there to cover for the BBC, that was probably when they decided that they need to spend the money to get someone of real quality.

Hence, Ogbonna.

Barzagli is the older of the 3 though, don't you think we need to start looking for a better RCB replacement for him instead of the left side of the back 3?

This guy is more of a luxury IMO. Great potentional but he isn't going to replace Chiellini or Bonucci anytime soon, they have a long time until they need a full replacement (bar a serious injury, of course). Ogbonna is going to want serious PT at a team to challenge for the national team spots and not sure he is gonna get a fair shot playing second fiddle to 3 players already ahead of him in the ranks for those national team spots.

Sure, great player potential and already strong but 15+m for a back up CB? Not excessive? I'd rather get a cheaper but also stable option (not sure who, don't ask it isn't my job to scout) and invest in someone better than our current quartet from last year in case one of Llorente or Tevez get hurt and/or need breaks.

We can cash in on those now while they have value.

Oh, OK.

I won't ask because I wasn't going to in the first place.

But that's kind of rich coming from you, who thinks that every youth player purchased is the second coming of Baggio

I'm not sure there are any more pressing areas of need on this team than a backup CB when we currently use 3 CBs and don't have a single CB on the bench.

I'm not sure how people can have these ambitions to win the CL but in the meantime be perfectly OK that in the case of a Bonucci or Chiellini injury, we'd have MARRONE or PELUSO potentially starting against Bayern, Madrid, Barca, etc...

My biggest fear last year and this year was CB cover and now I can sleep knowing we have a 25 year old CB from the Azzurri.

Err, what? I said there are other options whether its youth or not but I suppose I will take that as your response? Not much left to say I guess.
Because we had to use our money for the full ownership of Matri, Pepe, Quag, ...
And because we needed wing back more (Isla and Asamoah)
Although Isla didn't play much.
Asamoah seems to be the only good to come out of the 4.
And what makes you think Ogbonna is meant to be a Chiellini replacement?
Either he or bonucci and neither of them are leaving anytime soon.
So you've given up on Sorensen already? :D
What makes you think that?

And I hardly remember baggio so try someone in my age bracket* :D

Just how you think we need to look for a Barzagli replacement. If Sorensen isn't going to be his back up I don't know where he can play.
I was saying I don't think ogbonna would be a barzagli back up. :boh:
