If we play 4231 I would say he is a more than adequate 2nd choice.
Even if the 4-2-3-1 is an option next year it won't be the primary formation because it can't fit DP and Diego together. So we will likely have four strikers next season again.

Herein lies the problem. We cannot build the team around the clubs greatest for much longer. Plan A will not involve The Man imho. If Diego could dirft wide left, we would be beneficial. But I sadly do not think this is the case.

Basically.

A 35-year-old (36, this coming season) striker isn't meant to be a focal point in terms of restructuring a team; which is exactly what is required, unfortunately.

A good spine to build upon would be - Buffon, Chiellini, Marchisio, Melo, and Diego. Pretty thin, however, so I would also count on Manninger, Poulsen, and Iaquinta. If loans are sorted, Caceres and Candreva, as well.

Agreed...

Can't believe I'm supporting Poulsen.

I would also include Giovinco in the mix; the staple formation for next season should be 4-2-3-1 with Giovinco, Diego, and possibly Hazard as the 3 attacking midfielders supporting a powerful striker who does not go by the name of Amauri or Iaquinta.

Di Maria for 30 Million? Hell No.

Di Maria for 20 Million? A risk worth taking.

Hazard for 15-18 million? Absolutely.
