I have a question, I have my phone set to pattern unlock BUT if I lock it and go to unlock it after 15 seconds I can just use the slider, how do I fix this?

Settings>Security>Lock Phone After>Immediately

Don't think you need to add them into your WA contacts. Just add them to your regular contacts, and WhatsApp will automatically check if their number is registered for WA. If it is, then it'll show up under your WA contacts list.

If you want to check after recently adding a new contact, go to Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> Whatsapp -> Sync Now (you might have to press menu, I don't remember)
