Yea i agree. He could easily play instead of Pirlo. His passing and crossing are very solid. He also can hold the ball in his feet. The problem is, as JCK said, that Del Piero would spend more time infront of their goal than in our midfield.
Anyway it would be interesting to see him in the midfield. I mean, if Rooney can play there, Ale can too.
you do know rooney plays amc and pirlo plays dm
quiet a different position
and del piero can't defend at all. Great idea with hernanes as there amc :sergio:
atleast Pirlo knows where to walk to give the opponent few space at all.
we could try this
defense
vidal(in pirlo role)marchisio-del piero (vidal role)
pepe-matri-vuci

still i would go for just the 4-2-4 with del piero on the bench

Pirlo can defend but I notice he starts to get a little lazy lately... well that could be because he has Marchisio and Vidal to do the dirty work on both side.

DP in Pirlo's position? He played a couple of games like that in our first season back in A (mainly against Inter) and it was sooo orgasmic. You guys remember that Coppa game? Owning the Inter midfield all by himself :touched:

Rooney played as cm in a classic 4-4-2 with one of Carrick/Fletcher as 2nd cm. They had two strikers, two very attacking wingers, so i doubt he played acm. Pirlo's defending isn't much better either. I agree he's far more comfortable in that position though.

Del Piero in Vidal's role would be even worse. I mean i don't see Ale running and pressuring opponents like Vidal do.

Not even in Milan he was able to defend. Thankfully his offensive work and vision covers for his weak defensive abilities.
Look at the matches with 4-2-4, he pressures well there, particularly in the match against Siena and Bologna; but he's not doing it so much in three midfielder formation which has been used much lately.
