way ahead of you bud
1) Gillette has had an artificial surface for years now
2) It's what the Pats need and would want/expect him to be - a situational pass rusher and not just because of his age. And when it comes to JA vs Freeney, JA is far better against the run - and I mean that stats-wise, not just based on the eye-test. Which is also why I would prefer Idonije over Freeney too as I.I. would also offer the flexibility of playing on the inside on passing downs, while freeney is truly a one-dimensional player.
And it's also why the Pats haven't signed JA or Freeney yet - they obviously don't see either of them as anything more than a situational player and their offer is likely reflective of that.

don't listen to Serg, he's just jealous that you guys got ER20, while his team replaced Goldson with a guy he himself still can't name
While I think that Ed Reed has lost a step and even two and probably won't as big an improvement over Quinn play-wise, I agree that his biggest impact would be in terms of leadership on the field and grooming everybody else in that secondary. In that regard, he is indeed a good pick up by the Texans and worth the 5-6 mil of guaranteed money they'd pay him that very first year of the 3 year contract, iirc the terms.
If I had one doubt about getting Reed - as a Pats fan and all the rumors flying around after the SB - it had to do with the Ravens winning that SB. I still think there is a pretty decent chance he may have the SB hungover and not perform up to his usual standard now that he's achieved his goal. Other than that, I always knew the Pats were never gonna pony-up the money he'd be looking for even at this stage of his career, not after getting his ring anyway.
As for Schaub, I agree with both sides although have to say the Texans seem a bit too comfortable with an obviously average QB, who by now could well be seen as the bottleneck for the team's success. I don't know if you guys are planning on pulling a Kaep/Wilson-like move this year or the next and look for an eventual replacement among the deeper-round QB talent but I think it's time to start seriously thinking about it.
