My best friend is actually arguing with me on my iphone about the merits of Alex Smith over Peyton Manning.
He's using the old "Look at what Harbaugh did with him in one year."
to which my response was. "My point is this. They were one game away from the Super Bowl with Smith in a brand new offense without a full training camp. Knowing this, the still went after Manning hard. What does that tell you about how they truly feel?"
Maybe he's just trying to pick your spirits up
We'll just have to wait and see what Alex will bring to the table. For me, we know he's got some pronounced limitations, but he's a pretty smart guy, so it's possible he can further minimize some of those negatives. Really, there aren't a lot of examples like him out there... former number 1 QB's who are basically a bust for 7 years, and then magically take a team to the conference finals. 7 different OC's in 7 years. It's almost a miracle he's still in the league.
Like Canardo said, his confidence could have also taken a hit.
Nope, the 9 played hard ball with him because they've capped his value at a pretty firm number. It sounds like they just left that same deal on the table and he eventually took it - I guess we'll see the details soon.
One thing I took away from this, is that they must be fairly confident in Kaepernick. I'm looking forward to pre-season, see how he can stretch defenses with those new vertical threats.
