That's fucking nuts. I guess we're cutting cap. DeMeco has a big contract and is hurt a lot. I figured we would restructure his deal or something but this makes no sense.
Did some reading and apparently Ryans played just a little over 50% of the plays on defense last season, splitting time with Daryl Sharpton (outta the U). He had trouble adjusting to the 3-4 and 6.5 and rising is a little much to pay for a guy on half timing it. The coaches all think Sharpton could be a start playing next to Cushing.

Still it hurts because he was the defensive leader and now that Mario's gone we've got no authority.

he will prolly suck next year
His numbers should be better next year considering the upgrade at WR, the young O-line getting better (provided that RG hole gets filled), and the fact that he'll have been running the same offense initiated in preseason, with the same offensive coordinator for 2 years in a row - which really hasn't happened in his career. Not two full years of continuity, anyway.

If he plays worse, we all know where the fingers will be pointing. I think he'll have better numbers (yard/TDs) this coming year, although he'll probably throw more than 5 picks. I think he's generally pretty strong mentally, I'm not particularly worried about that.

I'm also interested in seeing a bit more of Kaep.

The 49ers are a pretty tight knit team, and I think it will help that guys like Gore and VD are so supportive of Alex.

His teammates like him, which should help smooth things out a bit.
