I don't care much for basketball, really. Probably odd for the tallest guy on the forums to be saying this. Watching basketball for me is like watching two six-year-old non-Asian kids play ping pong. You score that often, who really cares after a while?

OK, but you know what Greg?? This isn't just about basketball. This is about the rivalry of two of the greatest players of any sport, at any point in the history of sports

For modern TV sports, perhaps. "In the history of sports" is a bit of a stretch. I mean, you could make an argument for Karpov vs. Kasparov or Willie Mosconi vs. Minnesota Fats, depending on your criteria and perspective.

But to completely gloss over Ali vs. Frazer? Please...

Chess and Pool are not sports. You've got to be kidding me. Absolutely kidding me.

As great as Ali Frazier was, that rivalry was 3 fights.

Magic vs. Bird was 11 years in the pros, and 1 year in college

That was a time when basketball was such a beautiful game. Its really a shame that a lot of guys here on the forum are just too young to remember it.

That was a great documentary :touched:

Team sports are different than individual sports in terms of personal rivalries. And as for chess and pool, those two personal rivalries put their "sport" on the map -- whereas Magic and Bird arrived on the scene well past Wilt Chamberlain bagging his 10,000th groupie.

I remember the giant 'fro on the 7'2" thundering frame of Artis Gilmore, the A-Train, rocking the house for the Bulls long before the hordes of Michael Jordan ass-lickers started donning Bulls gear. I remember it. There just wasn't that much to remember, it being basketball and all. ;)

Now Marv Albert -- there's a basketball legend. Particularly in a diaper.

And this draft is the most top heavy OL draft in over a decade. I f you don't have any picks in the first 2 rounds, good luck

And when I sad that they had no picks, I would think that you guys knew what I meant
Which is extremely good news for us Sergio... very, very good news. We've got large holes to fill... that right side of ours is in desperate need of an upgrade.

Very nice that the first round is actually deep at safety as well! Thanks very much for the extra #1, Carolina!

I was 10, maybe 9 at the time, so I didn't fully understand what was going on... but even then, it was so, so sad to watch.

Still, it's pretty amazing that to this point in time Magic has dominated the HIV virus in a similar manner to the way he dominated the NBA. I remember reading in an SI a few years back (I believe it was SI) that the virus is now undetectable in Earvin's blood; I find that absolutely amazing. I read a brief article the other day about HIV being able to hide in bone marrow... that's probably where Magic's virus is hiding these days.

Obviously he's had the very best treatment possible, and worked his ass off to stay healthy, but clearly this is one extremely special individual; Magic is a genetic marvel, no doubt about it.

For me, he's definitely in the argument for G.O.A.T. The very definition of a matchup nightmare...

From what I'm hearing, the Niners are interested in restricted free agent Jared Gaither of the Ravens. He was given a 1st round tender, but he might be had for a 2nd round pick. If that is all it takes, then they have to do it. Dude is only 24 years old and is a monster. Put him at RT and let the niners use their first rounders on other positions.

Seems like the interest in Gaither might not have been as strong as initially thought, but when I heard about it, I was definitely interested. It makes a lot of sense, frankly, and it would be an amazing move if we could make a trade for a second, instead of paying stupid RFA money and tendering a 1st (which is out of the question, really). He's like 6'9", 340, or something like that. Absolute Monster. We definitely should be thinking OL first, we definitely need a safety, we need a return man...

...we did not fucking need David Carr! I mean, former #1, I understand some curiosity, but I heard we're paying him almost 3M a season! That's fucking insanity! Our O-line is pretty damn weak, and losing Pashos and probably Sims means that our veteran stop gaps, who were serviceable, are gone... this is a young line with big holes. David Carr is a sack machine. I just don't understand the thinking on this one.

I'm definitely looking forward to the 22nd! Love the draft...

So let's see..................

The Niners have picks # 13 and #17, Alex Smith seems as if he is turning the corner, they have a good young nucleus of players, the Cardinals and the NFC West are ripe for the picking, and....................................

The GM has to resign one month before the draft.

Yay.

I couldn't believe it when I saw that, either. I initially heard it was related to a divorce, but that's totally unconfirmed. I haven't followed it up since, but what the hell is that timing about?

This is a critical offseason for us. With a few tweaks (that O-line has got to be way more solid), we're definitely not very far away from being a legitimate contender.

The 49ers better get that position filled, ASAP. We have way too much riding on this draft, and have done nothing in FA.

HA! I bet each person in your front office would sacrifice his left testy for one of those 1st rounders! A rough year not to have any firsts... especially with the quality OL's sitting out there. Everything I've read says there's a big dip after the initial round.

Of course, we've all heard that before. There will be gems in the mid and late rounds... there always are.

We no longer have a proper GM, so maybe we should just package most of our picks to move up for a third 1st rd stud? Or move up into the top 10 at least, and get one of the elite OL's.

That 3rd 1st rd pick doesn't make sense, but it's not like we're blowing the budget on FA's. Terrible timing, this GM turnover.

Yep. Great QB, but not the worth the $11 Million for one season the Eagles would have had to pay him, so a good deal all around. Should really help the Foreskins contend in the NFC East.
