I think Mandzu was returning good numbers but we didn't give Alvaro continuity to hit some form when he was out IMO. On form, he is a better player with more facets to his game, but it's done so no point crying over spilt milk. Next.
No time to wait around for Morata to hit form, the club was mid table.

Mandzukic also brings the best out of Dybala, who is much more important and better than Morata.

So what if they insisted? This is what negotiating is about. They insist, and you persist. I'm not saying we should have paid 50 million for him back then, but at least given ourselves a better chance of keeping him when the time came for them to redeem/recall him.
insisted meant no recompra = no deal.

basically they payed us for a 2-year loan, do you get it?

Here is the difference though my man.

Vidal and Coman wanted to leave. In fact, Vidal openly recruited Coman in the press for him to come to Bayern just days after he signed for them. And let's not forget that Juve got 40 million for Vidal. Just because us internet sporting directors valued him at more than that, doesn't mean that teams were lining up for a player that was A) coming off an injury plagued season, and B) went and nearly got himself and his family killed in the off-season. Not the first time that he had an alcohol related incident. Real Madird even went out of their way to release a statement saying that they were no longer interested in him.

As far as that situation is concerned, I tell other Juve fans to think about this for a moment. If it were Juve that were buying Vidal from Bayern, given the circumstances that had played out, and the pricetag was 40 million euro, how would everyone have reacted? We would have lost our minds.

Cuadrado was a free loan, and Chelsea insisted that there be no option to make it permanent. It was a no lose situation for Juve no matter how you look at it. They paid nothing for him, he provided some good moments for us, and now that is it. He goes back, without any sort of performance or appearance based obligation tacked on. If they can negotiate something, great. If not, well, thank you for the 1 year that you were here.
I understand where you are coming from, but I still feel we could and should have done more. A top club should retain its best players/performers, not sell off a couple every season. Cuadrado and Morata were key cogs in our European campaign this season.

I would have ensured a right of first refusal, and the possibility to counter their buyback clause, essentially matching their 30 million.
But what's the point of them inserting a buy back clause in the first place if we inserted a clause ourselves that we could easily refuse, counter and/or match their offer?

I'm sorry. I don't understand. Could you please repeat that one more time?

All I know is we should have done more to keep him. Seeing him in a mediocre team like Arsenal is gonna hurt.

It was a calculated risk all the way around. If Morata did not perform, then he would have been a 20 million investment that did not work out. A lot of people here were hoping that he would do "well enough for us to succeed, but not well enough for Real to notice." That is almost impossible to have happen. Either he was going to flop, or he was going to be successful. There really wasn't a middle ground.

I'm sorry, but if he's willing to go to Arsenal (assuming he could refuse), instead of staying here, it says a lot about the guy. I'd only understand it if he'll remain at Real, his childhood club.

All this talk about him being some sort of traitor if he goes back to his boyhood club is insane.

If he does go to Arsenal or Chelsea, he won't be afforded the luxury of hitting a 4 month slump in the middle of the season. The press, and the fans, will be all over him.

Morata appeared in 47 matches this year. How exactly is this him not getting minutes?

He is quite possibly my favorite player on this club, but let's not act as if he was a victim here. The kid went through nearly 4 months without scoring a goal.

As a striker.

Yet Allegri still gave him meaningful minutes, when all of the journalists, and 99% of the forum here wanted Zaza ahead of him in the pecking order.

If he leaves, then there is no way that this can be about playing time, or not being made to feel wanted. The kid was protected here, just like everyone else. Not once did anyone, from his teammates, to the coaches, to the board, threw him under the bus.
Appearances doesn't mean you play alot, altough i know Morata played a lot of minutes but it's also due to Mandzukic & Dybala's injuries. He is not first choice and he knows it.

His terrible start of the season get brought every time, let's not forget that Mandzukic didn't score for a couple of month or more in 2016, yet he was still first choice even when he didn't add much to the team when not scoring.
I feel like Morata knows he isn't first choice here, even when IMO he should've been our starter later in the season. I think in his mind if he's stays to be the first attacker of the bench, rather go to Madrid and be the same thing, he could back up all 3 players ( CR, Benz and Bale...) or go to a team where he will be the indusputed starter like Arsenal.

True, but one has to say that his characteristics suits the EPL best.

His loss.

Mandzukic is not getting any younger.

Moratas advantage is that he can play either wing or CF, so he can be 1st choice sub for all 3 Reals attackers and eventually take over from Karim. Jese and Vazquez both played a lot this season for example and Morata would be ahead of these guys most likely. going to Real makes sense for him especially if Zizou wants him and because its his hometown club.

if he goes to Arsenal that will only prove that hes weak mentally and not ready to compete for a spot at a top club like Juve or Real. United is the only other club that would make sense for him considering they dont have a CF (Martial being a winger for them) and his relationship with Mourinho + Real can buy him from them whenever they want

Next time, Marotta should learn not to act like a provincial manager and acquiesce to a retarded demand (aka the recompra clause). I don't care if it is Madrid, Barca, or United. If we want a player, we either go all in or kindly withdraw. No need for half measures that might come back to bite us in the ass later (as is potentially the case with Both Cuadrado and Morata this summer).
Marotta made madrid give us 10million and a CL final.

Well it's that time of year again, welcome back :D

But still, :sergio:

Marotta said that if we didn't do that deal there was no deal, as they had much better offers from elsewhere but Morata wanted to come here because we showed early and keen interest.
This will fall on so many deaf ears
