He is around 40 years old, so I couldn't slap him or call him a fool, but I had to forgive him since he is one of those that watch football only for one month every 4 years

The reception Grosso got when he came over with Juve during may in Canada was huge. People were going crazy for him.
Eventhough Del piero still got the biggest reception
I kicked him out of the room after his comment, and didn't allow him to watch the match with the rest of the guys in office. That's the most I could have done, eventhough I wanted to bunch him for his many idiotic comments during matches
Fred, Deneb...I honestly don't have much else to say to add to my case, so I'll just add this; Anywhere else when I said Zizou is the greatest, I either recieved acknowledging nods or undecided shakes. This is the first time my statement was considered blasphemous.
But since it's you two, I'll keep in mind to raise the question more carefully from now on. arty:
I think you are mistaking America for the rest of the World.
I know that in Europe Italian football was already popular long, long before Diego went there. Probably due to the fact that cross boarder competition was so keenly felt in the European trophies on offer, as well as cross boarder holidays.

Exactly, crediting Maradona for putting the Italian leagu on the map is pure blasphemy. Remember the 60's Milan and Inter and certain slang called "la dolce vita".

I can honestly say I never have seen Maradona play in a Napoli shirt (apart maybe from highlights) and yet I have been a Juve fan since the eighties
and I don't think I'm the only one
it's really stupid to say that one man generates such an interest in a league
Diego was a great player but so was Platini before him
Romario and Ronaldo both played for PSV, did that turn them into the most popular European team? not even in Holland
it takes a lot more to make a league the most popular
serie A was the league were all the best players wanted to go to and now this is England or Spain
Diego was just one of them
You are one of a few I do read carefully, and I find you are wrong. In a world without the TV blanket coverage we accept for the norm today, the Italian league was followed by those watching there home trams playing in Europe. To say that one player raised it's profile is possible, to say they created that interst in plainly wrong.
Again I write, maybe that is the case in America, but it was not in Europe.
Hagi, Zidane, Cruyff, Baggio the best players ever. These players will show their class under any circumstances. Unlike the so called two best Messi and C. Ronaldo who were nothing good but wiping the floor in world cup.
